What is Late Kick Off like JWM? We aren't allowed to be on it as we are in the Barclays Premier League and the coverage is not allowed on Look East on a Monday night after 11pm. We are only allowed on MOTD and SKY at prime time although of course we have been on live a few times and of course you can catch all our games on the internet because the Barclays Premier League is shown live around the world unlike Late Kick Off which is shown around Ipswich.
You are feeling brave JWM. You been drinking again? Your posts are much more enlightening and fun when you do.
Best you put a hundred quid on us going down then, you can get 25/1.The winnings would buy a decent player at your level.
Discussing Wigan today at work, and how every season they seem to make the great escape. But someone else made an interesting point, Wigan of yesteryear would have gone on to win that match saturday and maybe there time has come and I completely agree with that. Last 2 or 3 seasons they would not have let that lead slip!
If you look back at the table at the start of February Wigan were seven points behind us,now they are six. That doesn't suggest any kind of late surge has taken place. What it does suggest is that they wont be bridging that gap at all.
Last season Wigan were not cast adrift if I remember correctly. They went on a terrific run and doubled their points tally in their last 10 games and ended up in a comfortable position. This season they've been in and out of the bottom three and games are running out. I would be surprised if they got three wins from now with their two re-arranged fixtures and Cup Final.
I just checked on statto.com They were never more than a single win from safety and towards the end were outside the bottom three so this late revival was a myth
So CT, they're really up against it this time as last year they did it early. The previous years I'm sure they got less points in the relevant run-in. I do remember them winning at Stoke on the last day to stay up one year. If they were that good, they'd be consistent top-half material, though they do play more attractive football than we do!
In the aftermath of Villa's thumping of Sunderland they move out to 15/2 against the drop.Wigan pull in sharply from 4/6 on to 2/5 on. Newcastle now come shorter than Villa at 7/1.Sunderland move in to 14/1 no doubt fuelled by losing Sessegnon for the rest of the campaign.Norwich 16/1.If Wigan fail to beat WBA on saturday their odds will shorten further.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds this incredibly uncomfortable? No points are guaranteed from Villa or WBA. I cannot imagine being in the position needing something from Man City if it comes to that. Whilst we're sat firmly in the driving seat, I can't help feeling that we're still reliant on Wigan screwing up for safety. Come on Norwich let's sort this out on Sat and prevent the onset of stomach ulcers.
The Villa game is going to be the biggest against them since the 1992-93 season I'd say. A defender got the winner that night. I'd settle for the same. Someone pointed out a City win with a Wigan draw, we are safe.
A draw would be ok for me.We just don't want Villa to be safe and be reliant on them taking something from Wigan on Survival Sunday. But we have only lost to Liverpool,City and Chelsea all season so I would rate the chances of not getting a point from two home games as being quite slim.Wigan might make 38,I don't think that they will make 39 and definitely not 40.A draw for Villa at our place and them on 38 would be fine. The other factor is that Newcastle now have a GD of 2 worse than us with a defence that looks rather like the Villa one of a few months back but without the decent goalie.
if we draw on saturday, it's a fantastic result in my eyes as we stay above Villa and wigan, and that's all we need to do going into the last day. villa have chelsea at home next, can't see them winning it. also CT, you can't say wigan won't get to 40 - 2 wins and a draw is more than possible. they play two mid-table teams in WBA and Swansea next. The funny thing is now, everyone is looking at Wigan.
Two wins and a draw would only take Wigan to 39, Max, and that would surely mean getting a draw at WBA. I can't see them getting anything from their game at Arsenal, so they would have to beat both Swansea and Villa, which they could do,but the pressure will be immense, given that they have to play four games and a Cup Final in 15 days. The crucial thing for City is to get at least a draw against Villa. A win, though, would be wonderful indeed.
