"From the trusted few on Merseyside, Liverpool have enquired about #NUFC left-back Jose Enrique and been told he's not for sale. #NUFC"

Was given this quote from a friend, who seen it on twitter on the nufcfans page.

Probably just trying to get a higher fee for him by rejected it, IF TRUE that is.

EDIT: I realise the title is misleading.

I'd prefer we sell him now if we cannot get him to sign a new contract.

I'd hold out for 12m atleast but i have a feeling it'll be about 7m and it will be undisclosed.

When we heard the same thing on deadline day about Carroll I was jumping up and down and called my liverpool mate to laugh at him and swear at him.

Just one hour later Shirley signed for the bindippers.

Not counting my chickens yet , don't think anyone is.

NEWCASTLE United are poised to add an international midfielder to their squad this week as they look to strike transfer gold early on this summer.

The Sunday Sun can reveal that after a five-hour transfer meeting chaired by Mike Ashley on Thursday, United are close to brokering their first deal of the close season – and are hopeful of signing a second player within a fortnight of the end of the campaign.

“I think we’re close on one player which we would like to get over the line,” Pardew said.

“And I can say that because he’s an international player – not someone who belongs to one of the bottom four battling relegation.

“There are two or three others we’re monitoring and we know what the figures are to get them over the line.”

The club are desperate to keep the name under wraps in case it alerts potential rivals, but the international player is primarily a central midfielder and is based in Continental Europe. A fee has already been agreed.

Midfield has become a priority area for United to strengthen, but they also want to boost options up front and are in the hunt for Ivory Coast striker Gervinho, who has a release clause in his contract. Wages are currently a major sticking point in that deal.

The club are ready to open negotiations with Wigan over a return for Charles N’Zogbia before the end of the month, but the Sunday Sun understands they will not be signing £10m-rated Connor Whickham.

Kevin Gameiro, an early target, wants to go to Spain, while Roma’s France international striker Jeremy Menez HAS been watched by the club and is a potential signing.

A £7m move for Reading striker Shane Long is under consideration, while Jose Salomon Rondon, of Malaga, is another in the mix.

Meanwhile, the Sunday Sun can reveal that Jose Enrique’s agent is scheduled to meet club secretary Lee Charnley this week as United step up their efforts to cling onto the left-back.

The club fear his head has been turned by rival clubs, but the player is yet to give any indication that he wants to leave. A prospective move to Liverpool has been complicated by the Reds unwillingness to match his wages – after Ashley Cole he is the best paid left-back in the league.

Enrique is represented by his brother and the club will press him for a decision on his future so they can decide whether to lodge a second bid for Cheikh M’Bengue, Toulouse’s top-rated France under-21 international full-back.

If Barton goes I couldnt really give a **** anymore, if the club cant do a simple thing and keep arguably their best player of the season...especially when HE wants to stay HE was willing to take a pay cut and HE loves it here then theres absolutely no hope while those two ****s are in charge.

Enrique has no real ties to the club and has been quoted many times as saying he wants to play in europe, I wont blame him if he leaves, and he will definitely leave IMO, Ashley probably already has what price he wants in his head. Mark my words.
