Why were Fahti and Simpson dropped?

I don't get Chaz or the arguement saying Fathi is amazing. Can't we all just agree he is a half decent football, he is brilliant nor is he awful like Chaz says. Fathi for me is probably our best option, better than Alex Bruce who is a CB, and Evans who is average. It doesn't mean he is amazing but he is our best option in DM.

In Egypt Fahti is considered better than Elmo in the right wing-back position. Elmo has looked tired and ineffective for a while, Fahti is fresh - I think he should have come on for Elmo or even started last night.

Boyd should be nowhere near midfield, hes wasted there, and it leaves us a man short in the middle.

I think its time to look at 442, the last few weeks weve looked much better when weve brought Rosenior on than when weve played 352.

Definitely agree, big fan of elmo but he has been absolutely **** recently, although with Rosie on at the same time the right side has looked a lot stronger. Think I would go:

------------Stockdale-------------

Rosie--Hobbs/Chester--Faye---Brady

--Elmo---Fathi---Meyler---Quinn--

----Fryatt/Gedo---Boyd/Simmo----

I've never said he was awful. I've always said Bruce doesnt rate him or he wouldn't play him. I think Bruce and his staff will ave looked at all options of where to play him, it's not happened for a reason. I've always pushed for TC to play, but he's not had a look in, again, I trust Bruce's judgement rather than my own.

Watching Fathi in an international against **** knows who is not how to judge a player compared to day in day out in training.

I agree with those who say that Elmo's form has been dwindling for a while now. It's become obvious that he needs to be rested, and with a like for like replacement in Fathi it is astonishing that he hasn't been.

To blame him for the goal is silly, he lost possession on the half way line, there were 2 defenders behind him and the goalie. Stockdale could have done much better to make the save. He was probably our best player on Tuesday and probably showed enough to be played against the already relegated, bottom side. But SB played Boyd, who is an AM or striker, in CM. Earlier in the season he played Bruce, who is a CB. He wanted Boyd for the creativity, but didn't bet on Bristol crowding him out, or Boyd having probably his worst game in a City shirt.

I don't think there's any point in pretending it was something it wasn't, it was definitely a schoolboy error and he was half way between the halfway line and the goal. I think he has some ability, but he'll definitely not be here next season, whatever league we're in.

Bruce has done a brilliant job this season, but he's completely ****ed up the last two team selections, I pray he doesn't blow it by doing the same at Barnsley.

I can't remember us having a good game when playing Meyler as our most defensive midfielder (perhaps there might have been one).

Meyler isn't particularly suited to that linking role. You need somebody who you know will be in the middle of the pitch to receive a pass and then move it on, keep possession in their half and then give it to the players who create chances. Evans does that role well, and Fathi seemed okay at Wolves.

jr is best in that role..
dare I say it... but we missed him.

I still think it is harsh to criticize Fathi to much for the mistake at Wolves, when apart from that he had an OK game. He certainly is better option in that midfield holding roll position when Evan is missing, and I think would have balanced the side better last night if he had played. Hobbs who had not a bad game last night on one or two occasions misplaced passes when trying to go forward, could have resulted in a goal against, but luckily Brizzle didn't capitalise.

Big clanger.

Meant we had semi-fit attackers.

Meant team unbalanced as Elmo and Brady had no-one to play off as Meyler and Quinn sucked in too central.

Solution - back to 3-5-1-1 which is really what we usually play. Start Simmo against Barnsley. Start Fahti or Evans in central mid. Either play Boyd in the hole or drop him for Koren (or Fahti who has good shot on him and would do well there).

You know what, I haven't got a ****ing clue why Bruce (Snr) picked the team the way he did.

But his track record with us and other clubs suggests he gets the big calls right the majority of the time. Which manager doesn't get somethings wrong sometimes?

I tell you what though. In this day and age of sterile chess like football, it's refreshing to see a manager 'go for it'.

Better to try and fail than not try at all.

Bit like the way in which Brown (Phillip, he of pink jumper fame and brown brogues fame) had a go the first time we went to the Emirates.

Now get a grip and let the experts pick the team.

So you don't think our football was sterile on Friday night then? I think that's a perfect description. Much as I am a huge fan of Bruce we are all entitled to our opinions....especially one so obvious as that Boyd in midfield is wasted and starts g with two unfit strikers is a mistake. As soon as I saw that lineup I feared the worst. Fryatt isn't the paciest striker, all he has is sharpness in front of goal, which after so long out is clearly not going to be there.

I'd like to see Boyd and Simmo upfront and either Evans or Fathi with Meyer and Quinn in the middle.against Barnsley.
