3 dead at the mo - but a fair number of amputations.

For athletes - how sick is that?

I know it doesn't make it better, but one of the blasts at least only hit spectators. Not seen the other one yet but if it's the same there'll be very few athletes in the numbers.

I'm not sure what you're getting at there Ricardo. I haven't checked, but I think the blasts went off over an hour after the winner crossed the line. They appear to have been targeting members of the public and fun runners. It wouldn't be any better or worse if they had targeted the professional athletes

I'm getting at the second part of the post I was responding to. "For athletes - how sick is that"

City, I taught there for time and still visit regularly. I wouldn't overstate any anti-British or provo feeling. Even as an English Catholic, I'm mildly amused at the rare moist eyed rose glasses sentiment for 'the old country' and yet when I asked how they found Ireland when they visited, I'd get the usual 'Never been there' response. You get the odd idiot spouting shoite through the bottom of a glass. I am part Irish and Welsh only two generations back but I consider myself British/English, yet for some over there the roots go back even further and are more tenuous. It's plastic Oirishness in many cases, a badge. Folks mix there as well as anywhere in the US. Finally, the Catholic community who are still strong in local politics celebrate and fund celebrations of the Puritan founding fathers.

By a now unfortunate coincidence, I was there when they were filming on location http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109303/

including staging explosions.

Reminded me a lot of Britain: it was overcast, breezy, many quarters reminded me of the Avenues, slightly tatty in places, some old redbrick industrial wreckage here and there. It lacked the sleek self-confidence found elsewhere in the US.

I had scrod (?) and chips- seems to be their haddock substitute.

I wouldn't disagree with a word of that. Even some of the university areas where I was living were a little tatty. I never fancied the scrod though. You could get haddock and cod but they weren't caught locally and you had to pay the extra for it...

Did you ever get out into the countryside Agro? Feckin glorious in the fall...

Don't know if anyone else has seen it, there's a video all over Facebook blaming it on the illuminati, the argument is ****ing pathetic and about as solid as diarrhoea, yet the mongs are all believing it completely.

****ing brain dead half wits <laugh>

Can't believe how many armed police there are in that town and most of them don't look like they know what the **** they're doing. If a car back-fires it'll be Armageddon.

What are unarmed police? We dont have such things in the US. Most cops carry a pistol, shotgun and an AR15. The shotgun and AR15 are contained in their police car.

According to google Boston has the 20th largest police force in the US and it has 2,144 officers. When you factor in all the other police forces in Mass and the state police etc I am sure that Mass could put tens of thousands of cops on the streets all armed. Then there is the Mass national guard of course which would help out in a pinch as well.
