Came home tonight and my smoke alarms were going off, **** myself at first as thought house might be on fire but discovered a trip switch had gone.
Sorted that out but getting no signal to TV from cable box or PS3 on HDMI cables. Switched TV's to another one I have that was not plugged in and still nothing.

There has been lightening around here today, is it possible the HDMI ports on my TV and cable box's have been fried or could the cables themselves be shot, don't have a spare one to test if its the cable or the ports.....anyone got any technical knowledge

Watch out that most shops will try and sell you a stupidly expensive HDMI cable. If you've got 3D TV or a 7.1 sound system then you'll need a 1.4 spec cable. Amazon sell a 2m 1.4 cable for £3.99 http://www.amazon.co.uk/HDMIKing--HDMI-KING-Fuss-Free-Packaging/dp/B001R660DM . If you're just connecting a standard cable box straight to a regular TV and only need a short cable, then one from poundland will work just as well as one for £60 from a fancy hifi store.

Check your insurance see if you're covered.
You may be paying a higher premium to cover this sort of thing.
My daughters large screen TV was on the floor when they came home from work.
They were just going to buy a new one as theirs was kaput.
Told her to check her insurance and it was covered. <ok>

Do you not have a small TV or computer monitor you could plug your accessories into ?
It would cut down on guessing which ones have blown.

We had one hdmi socket on ours which was knackered scart worked fine but decided on the 3D smart telly, which was nice.
Got a decent HDMI lead from PC World 12 quid works fine now and 3 D is very good.

Thanks for advice chaps, have got the cable working with a scart but on another TV. My plasma will only play sound and no picture on the scart. PS3 is totally shot, can't get anything out of it. Will have to give the insurance a shot but have a £300 excess and it may not be worth blowing my no claims. Going to get a PS4 when it comes out anyway.
The surge breaker did nothing, it was lightening so was too strong, it hit my next door neighbours telly ariel, totally obliterated it and it somehow got in my house, glad I was out or would have **** myself
