How unfortunate. A true pro. Good to hear we will be sticking with him. Could have done with his dead ball skills this season :(

Newcastle United are sad to announce that Ryan Taylor has suffered a further cruciate knee injury.

Taylor, aged 28, and with 91 United appearances under his belt, injured his knee in the early stages of the home Europa League qualifier against Atromitos last August, undergoing surgery shortly after to repair the ligament damage.

After making good progress over the past eight months and having just returned to training, this latest news is a massive blow to the popular player.

Manager Alan Pardew said: "Ryan has worked so hard and diligently since his injury.
"He has been a model patient and has given his all to ensure he could return to full training in the best condition possible. Clearly everyone at the Club is deeply saddened by this news.

"Ryan has, and will continue to, receive the full support of everyone at Newcastle United during this difficult time for him."

It is likely that Taylor will miss the majority, if not all, of next season.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Tim Krul will undergo surgery on Monday after dislocating his shoulder in the Tyne-Wear derby last Sunday. The Club expects him to return to training at the end of July.

This is really bad news. Like I said on the other thread, its bad enough news for us but far worse for Ryan. I really hope he is able to come back from this. I was in the Gallowgate when he first went over against Atromitos and it looked like nothing. Devestating for him that its turning into two seasons. Thats a big chunk of a professional career.

    When is his contract up?

Lesser people would probably retire over this. Given the amount of injuries we have had, it begs the question, what are our doctors and physios like? Are they monkeys?

This may take him to the end of the contract.

there isn't always someone to blame. i can't think of anything a doctor or physio could have done which would have caused or contributed to a anterior cruciate ligament injury

Then I hope the club do as much as possible to support him. I know he'll be better off than all of us on here anyway, but its a short career. There won't be clubs lining up to sign him if he is still injured.

Very short. I beleive roughly 50% of professional footballers file for bankruptcy within 5 years of the end of their career

That's a sad indictment of how clubs look after players off the pitch, bearing in mind the vast majority are still technically children when they get plucked into professional football.

just spent a few minutes on the internet. there seems to be a debate about the figures, with the figures being somewhere between 10% and 60% declaring bankruptcy.

many clubs now have a liaison officer whose job it is to encourange players to get some decent investment advice but that is a very recent development - - as wor Nobby will tell you

I don't think I've ever heard of such misfortune! Not ten minutes ago I read the article about him looking forward to coming back.

I almost think this is a joke it's so unlucky...
