No, because they didnt win the league which decides the best team in the country. Chelsea DID win the Champions LEAGUE which decides the best team on the continent. So yes they were the best. It really is as simple as that. Let me throw it back at you then - if we're judging teams purely on opinion rather than what they win, why do we have competitions at all? Lets just throw away league tables and end all competitions and instead vote on who we think is the best. That seems to be what you are advocating.
I'm not advocating that at all - in fact, one of the glories of football (and indeed most sports) is that the best team doesn't necessarily always win a competition. Here we are with four teams all capable of winning the Champions League, and that's great. But the one that wins won't necessarily be the best team. Let's say the same four teams spent the next five months each playing the others six times in an 18-game league - the chances are the best team would come out on top. But a two-leg semi and a one-off final is less likely to determine the best team. What's wrong with observers stepping back and taking an objective view of teams' relative quality?
Why don't you start an article 'who are the currently the best football team in the world' and see if any **** other than you thinks it's not Barcelona?
Given that he claims Chelsea were the best team in the continent last season but Man City and Man Utd were better than, er, Chelsea...
So answer my point then - why do we have competitons? And Im pretty sure several million Brazillians might agree me with me for a start. Im pretty sure people on here just disagree with me for sport. Im clearly ****ing right here - the best club team in the world are the team who win the World Club Championships. Argue with me as much as you want but that is cold, hard FACT. It's precisely the same way that the best team in the Premier League or any other league win it that year. Everyone always says that come the end of the season the best team wins. Barcelona arent even the champions of their OWN league, never mind being best in the world. So how do you think City rank amongst the teams in the Championship? 15th perhaps? If only someone came up with a system of deciding this based on performance....
You seem to be confusing competitions. There is one tournament to decide who is the best club side on the continent and Man Utd and Man City didnt win it. I'll keep asking if you want - why do we have the Champions League and World Club Championship?
It's football, the best team doesn't always win. Chelsea won the Champions League, but were nowhere near the best team in Europe, Greece won the Euro's with a **** team and half the clubs don't even take the World Club Championship seriously. Your argument is fatally flawed and you're just looking daft. Again.
Half the clubs? How many teams do you think enter it? Seriously, you're winding me up though now arent you? Has there been some kind of private messaging boom that has said 'even if BCC makes the most logical point ever, lets just oppose it for a lark'? Where do you think City rank in the Championship in terms of performance this season?
Considering I was talking the Spanish national team, they have never won the Champions League. The Spanish national team have won the last 3 major competitions they entered and comfortably. Did you watch the final of Euro 2012, Italy couldn't get near them, it was like an FA Cup game between a Premier League side and a League 2 side. They're generally considered to be the best team in the world at the minute and I'm fairly sure most would agree with that. They've performed well in most of their competitions on a regular basis for 5-7 years now, they've won 2 of the last 4 Champions League's which is a great achievement in the modern game. Of course they haven't managed the likes of Madrid's 5 in a row but no-one ever will, I doubt there'll be a club team that's more revered and/or feared than this current Barca team for many, many, years, if ever. You could say that it's just 'opinion' regarding who the best team is, and you'd be right, but when it's as unanimous as it clearly is, you have to wonder why don't you? The Club World Cup really doesn't decide who the best team in the world is if we're honest. It's barely even acknowledged in this country, a few years back Fergy put out a reserve side in it. It has nowhere near the prestige, reputation or financial benefits that come with winning the Champions League, Premier League or even the FA Cup, or at least it doesn't here. You can't really think that Corinthians are currently a better side than Barcelona.
So, Chelsea were the best team in the whole continent on selected Tuesdays and Wednesdays (and one Saturday), but on most Saturdays they weren't even the best in their own country? I'm getting it now - so which was the best Thursday team?
I thought you were talking about Barcelona, I mustve got lost in the posts somewhere where someone was. Apologies. I woudlnt dispute in a million years that spain are the best national team in the world. Because they won the tournament to decide this. See above in bold.
