Doubt anyone's doing that. Point is, there are plenty of threads where one can join in with the gloomier stuff.

    It's not for everyone. <ok>

I said earlier in the week ("Don't Boo" thread) that we should all sing our asses off tomorrow. If a full house in full voice doesn't motivate the lads tomorrow then nothing will.

Looking forward to it - let's all kick some ass !!!

I do find it strange that when there are threads that appear to be doom mongering but have been put together with constructive if damning criticism of the management and players it is assumed you want the team to lose. If anybody doubts any other posters love for this club and the enthusiasm and excitement that has been building for tomorrows game, then they are completely out of order.
I can't wait for kick off but following CH's assertion in the media, that basically it is the players fault we haven't been winning, then I have gone with my head and predicted a 0-0 draw. My heart is aching for 5-0 home win and countless chances created. I would love all the smart arses to be able say I told you so tomorrow at 4.50pm and I look forward to hearing it. After 53 years of being in love with this club, the last three months have been up there with some of the worst so I my heart is singing with Beefy that its on for tomorrow. Don't let me down

I don't have a problem with "constructive if damning criticism of the management and players" as long as constructive is the key element.

There has been too much of a habit on here of damning criticism without reasoning or explanation about how the situation could be improved. Moreover, there is a tendency to be very black and white. I.e., the view that "if Hughton's not good he's bad". Obviously that's a generalisation, but I feel that too often the strengths of the manager (and certain players) are lost because it is much easier to get fanatical in criticism. As will all things other than Roeder, we shouldn't lose sight of the positives, especially when the negatives are really grating.

This has translated into anyone who is remotely positive, even caveated, being harshly jumped on.

Definitely. Considering the decent players we have in the squad, I have found these last few games as dire as anything that has been served. I have witnessed many poor performances over half a century but most of those had excuses. I find the recent games inexplicable, and as you yourself pointed out, we were capable of deservedly beating a team that is walking to the title this season.

I find much of what you say acceptable except your defence of CH. He is documented far too many times in blaming the players. That is not good management in my eyes. Whether or not I am justified in my belief that it is his style that is causing this problem matters little. But I assert my belief that he should be taking the flak. What he says in the dressing room is his business but don't tell the world that the lack of goals is down solely to the players.
And there is nobody who wants him to fail. But success isn't just staying in the Prem. It is also turning out a value for money performance as many times as possible.

See this is what I mean. There is an odd belief on here that if you are not criticising Hughton actively, you must be defending him.

I totally agree with you on the discussing players with the press point. I don't think that part of his management is good at all. I said exactly that from after our defeat to Fulham where he said something disgraceful like "we have to accept that some teams are technically better than us". Completely the wrong message in my view. And I. Agree that he should get flak for that. I don't believe I ever said he shouldn't.

However, my point is that, despite these faults, we still shouldn't lose sight of the fact that he does have qualities - he is clearly good at steadying a ship, he has an excellent record in the transfer window and he is good at organising a solid defence.

Just saying that doesn't mean I support him long term - as I've said on another thread, I'm too frustrated with how bad the football is to put up with more than another ten or fifteen games like this. However, I'm not going to damn Hughton completely, because I know he does have qualities. In particular, his transfer record and promotion season with Newcastle encourage me that he does have the ability to get us playing better football.

I just wish he would have more faith in Lambert's players (after all, they got us twelfth last season...) but I suspect that is one thing that unfortunately won't change.

I don't rate Hughton personally but I am always open to him changing my mind.

As for tomorrow, no negativity. Come on you yellows!

However, if after 70 minutes we are 1-0 down, toothless in attack and refusing to change our formation then I will be screaming at the computer screen.

Yes, we have tended to divide into two camps on this, and at times it has got very fractious. But if you feel that your 'positive' camp is 'being harshly jumped on', I think we 'negatives' feel that there is an undercurrent of accusation that we are not genuine 100% supporters because we are critical of Hughton and the kind of football we are playing.

Anyway, I genuinely don't want to turn this thread into chapter 28 of our ongoing difference of opinion. As you had tried to explain how the guys on your side felt, I thought it was a good opportunity for me to say how I feel (and I suspect a lot of us on the 'negative' side).

Let's just hope and pray for a good performance, a victory, and a release of some of this tension.

    <laugh><laugh><laugh>

I'm sorry, it was the highlighted bit that got me, "...the team has produced this year" <laugh>

Did you really mean to say that? Ok, the Luton game was good for a laugh, but really, "produced this year"??

Nevertheless, quality stuff mate, keep it up!! <ok>
