Doubt that Courtois would want to come here, really; he could have his pick of top teams anywhere in Europe at this point. Atletico would sell its theoretical children into servitude to sign him permanently.

Exactly, even if we are interested, there are many more teams who are in a better position to sign him. A loan is unlikely, a permanent transfer is impossible.

Not sure why you see it as "unreasonably" annoys. It is not unreasonable to be annoyed by the concept of him not signing. I personally think it is the eccentricity coming out in him.

His agent must be eccentric as well then! Or perhaps just doing his job and negotiating to get the best deal for his client, whether that's with us or elsewhere.

Wonder what the possibility is of a swap deal, Shaw for Courtois...? If Boruc doesn't resign, it could work for both of us. Chelsea need a left back, to replace Ashley Cole, and we need a goalkeeper, to replace Boruc. Targett, if his hype is to be believed, could replace Shaw. Not that I want Shaw to go though, of course, hope he stays for years and years to come. Just a possibility.

****.That

It's possible that we could get an additional keeper if Poch wants to send Gazza on loan, but it probably wouldn't be our no.1 priority signing. Maybe if a great deal came up Gaston style. Season long loan, can't really see it. I know this is yet more column filler but I think Boruc will be the one.

Don't understand that reasoning at all!

90% of all rumours are nothing more than paper talk, how does someone making up a link make it more likely to actually happen?

You're right 90% of rumours are just that but the links that persist and keep coming back tend to be the ones that have some legs to them. All I am saying is we were linked with him last summer and we are being linked with him again. Whether that means anything only time will tell.

We could show him the dvd? :p

Well maybe if he comes here he will get more practice at shot stopping! (unless we improve our defence!).

Swap shaw for a keeper?! No thanks, even if he is one of the best. Shaw adds more to the team.

Odd thing about goalkeepers is that it's been shown (can't find link, sorry) that, for the effect they have on team results, quality goalkeepers are the cheapest players.

Boruc is certainly good enough but if he decides not to stay then the factor mentioned above should mean a big purchase might make sense.

If it's only a season loan then I'd rather just stay with Boruc. As good as TC is, I have a feeling Boruc will hand in a transfer request if he isn't getting regular game time and when Courtois' loan runs out then we'd just be left with Gazzaniga, who probably won't be ready if we expect to be a top half team in a couple of seasons.

Assuming Boruc signs a new deal, of course!

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. PL should be more attractive than Atletico. We could probably outbid Atletico if we really wanted. He's right up our alley in terms of age.

Say we finish 10. With our young squad he would have an outside shot at Europe, plus a salary bump.

But I just don't know if we could keep him more than one season unless we actually made CL or at least looked like shoo-ins for the next season. Boruc would be a much cheaper, less hassle option.

But I do think we will manage to snag at least one 15 millon pound big name player this summer.

Mauricio has already said that he wants to sign him (seems more open than Nige), so I am concerned that Boruc's heart isn't fully in it or surely he would have signed by now. I think he is considering options which, as I said above, I can't blame him for as a fellow human being, but makes me cross as a die-hard Saints fan. Doesn't he know we are the best club in the world?

I can't believe I'm reading this. You say he'd have an outside shot at Europe if he came to us, but he won the Europa league last season and he will play in the champions league next season if he stays at Atletico.

Even if the premier league was more of a draw than that (which it isn't) he's already under contract at Chelsea! Why would he come to a team that might give him an outside shot at Europe?

Cortese will make him a offer he can't refuse. <laugh>

Why are people talking about signing him permanently? There is absolutely chance of that happening.

This. We only have the slightest of chances of signing him on loan so that makes the chances of signing him permanently approximately er.... nil.

Everton are supposedly after him, he might sense first team chances at a bigger club there.

If Chelsea were to start him, he wouldn't be on loan, nor would he be hinting he wants to leave. It depends on the new coach.

We can outbid Atletico, therefore staying there may not be an option. So it us really more whether we are attractive eniugh that he might pick us over being unsettled at Chelsea or holding out for a move to Atletico that might not materialize. I think we meet that threshhold, but like I aaid I don't think we could keep him.
