He isn't hinting he wants to leave, he's saying he wants to spend another year on loan at Atletico.

And even if he was going to leave Chelsea permanently, which I don't think he will be allowed to do, we would not be able to outbid a team that is playing in the champions league.

He will stay under contract at Chelsea because they want to keep him, he will want the virtual guarantee of champions league football they can offer, and they will pay him more than any other club will. If he has to spend a few more seasons on loan, so be it.

Chelsea seem to mothball a lot of players...they go in for scattergun purchases. Don't know if that is normal for the bigger clubs.

Exactly. A year-long loan might be possible and might make sense in some circumstances but a permanent transfer won't happen. If Chelsea accepted a bid from us (or anyone else) the big clubs would move in. Just off the top of my head I could see Arsenal being interested and don't Barcelona need a new keeper as well?

He would conceivably make a lot more money here. Unless Chelsea sign him to a new contract in which case we are sunk. Look, I am sure thus rumor is BS as are almost all of them floating around now. All it said was MP git some rave reviews from his scouts in Spain, which is hardly surprising. Here is a rave review from the US: Courtous is awesome. Big deal.

We're only being thrown in there because MP coached in Spain. All I am saying is that if we cast iur nets wide enough, asI think we will, we will sign a Workd Class type player. We're not getting anyone under contract at good wages. We're not getting anyone if Liverpool or Arse or whoever matcges our bid. But we have a foot or maybe just a toe in the door. So I think someone will slip through the cracks and come to us though the odds on any specific indivudual are low. I was talking about how or why I think it will happen, not that I think we are actually likely to get or even want Courtois.

I can't see the logic in that statement.

I don't see it happening, but hand on heart this would make a lot more sense to me than keeping Boruc. Rightly or wrongly, I can still see us not offering Boruc a new contract.

Don't get me wrong, Boruc has played very well recently and I would have no problems keeping him in goal next season. He deserves a new deal. But I just don't think he fits the right profile in terms of players we want to acquire. Courtois however does.

But Pochettino has said he wants Boruc and there are ongoing talks? So there is intent from our side of things.

I still think Artur is going to sign, it's just a time issue. I could be wrong though, he's an odd-ball!

I'm sorry, but if Chelsea start accepting loan bids in the prem for Courtois, I am certain a bigger club will go in for him, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal all have keeper problems and all would take Courtois in a heartbeat. There is no way in hell he will come here on a full transfer either not this window. He wants to play for Atletico again, and they are in the champions league! So unless any club can match that level of competition he will go there again, i am sure of it. Also Southampton could NOT offer a better deal than Atletico Madrid... They were outperforming Real for most of the season! Our highest earner is on reportedly 40k p/w ish? I'm 99% sure Falcao earns atleast double that.

Atletico Madrid is broke. The debt situation of the La Liga clubs is ridiculous. The hammer will fall pretty soon. It's one thing for Atletico and the government to beat up on Deportivo Coruna, but when you start to annoy other big football clubs, and banks, and even other countries the gig is up.

Much prefer him to Butland and if we were going to pay 6m (i know paper talk) then get the chequebook out. We should be signing Boruc but then that should have been sorted already.

A lot of you are assuming Courtois has a big say in where he goes.
If Chelsea want him to get used to the premier league and English life before he becomes their number 1 then they will send to a premier league club.

As for him favouring Arsenal over say Saints, that's not his decision. It's up to Chelsea and they're unlikely to send him to a direct competitor in the top 6..

So whilst the article is speculative it has legs because its an extremely likely scenario and our name is one of a few on that article touted due to our goalkeeper issue not resolved for next season.

As others have said, there is about a 0.01% chance of us signing him permanently, and I'm probably being generous. On loan is more feasible but it depends if Chelsea would rather him be on loan to a club in the Prem, or a club abroad who is playing in European competition, to give him more big game experience. There is a scenario where they can do both, and that is Wigan making the FA Cup final and staying up, if this happens then I think that would probably be his likely destination.
