Don't forget Lisbon away in 2005 2 0 up with an away goal go on to lose 4 2 on aggregate. This can easily happen

Alot better than I expected. Thought we might of got a good hiding tonight. Krul straight back in and down to business. Big bonus.

Not bad after a reasonably long lay off.
Don't feel so bad about the return leg

Absolutely. On a night where getting beat 1-0 would of given us a chance, getting beat 3-1 leaves us in the same position. Needing to win by 2 goals and not conced.

Good posts on here tonight. In the bar tonight every ****er had us beaten and finished.Told them it's only half time and anything can happen next week.I can't wait for next thursday get a early goal and we are off....Lads did us proud..hwtls

Went to the pub to watch it myself, much better atmosphere and everybody oo'ed and awed at some of the play and some of the officials decisions.

Still seats left for the home game, got an extra ticket if anybody misses out and needs one.

Got my regular seat and the one next to it.

Not conceding defeat when we're this close. No chance.

A 2-0 win gets us through, and we're way more than capable of doing so.
With the crowd as the 12th man, I'm sure we'll give Benfica a run for their money.
Hope we'll have some players back like Tiote and Haidara for the most important game of the season next Thurs.
We committed terrible schoolboy errors that cost us, and they'll come to SJP looking to defend. Hope we make that a huge mistake with the crowd behind the team, pile on the pressure on them!

It was yet another big game which sums up life as a Newcastle supporter.... a boat load of "what if's" and "what might have beens".

What if Cisse's 2 shots hadn't hit the post? What if Santon had just lashed it into Row Z? What if Taylor hadn't stood on Moussa's foot like a plumb and did that ridiculous 'arms by his side' lunge handball he tries every week? What if Graham Fenton had missed that chance away at Blackburn? Or Schmeichel hadn't pulled out that top drawer save when we battered Man Utd and lost 0-1?

Always the key moments, always against us. Pah.

I'm so deflated this morning, because - like you - I thought we did really, really well for most part of the game, against a quality side. We could easily have been 3-0 up after 25mins, yet it wasn't to be. It never is.

I just hope we have enough left in our tanks to pick up 3 points against Fulham, because it's a must-win game.

To add to that, What if Graeme Souness had never become manager for us?
What if Didier Drogba didn't destroy us for Marseille like he did? What if Damian Duff didn't send us down?

I feel sorry for Taylor it was unlucky really, you could just see he was so up for it that he almost involuntarily moved his arm, he was so amped for the game he was just unwilling to let that ball go by him. I think his arm goes out before his brain has time to stop it.

I don’t blame him at all because how many times has that kind of spirit that he has for the club saved us. Last night it was just unfortunate that this time it hit his arm and cost us a goal.

I also feel for Santon because apart from that one pass i thought he played well last night and he has been getting a bit of stick recently on here. I quite like the bloke. He's young and just needs to be given a chance. The lads got bags of talent and just needs time to learn his craft at fullback and nail down his positioning. A great one for the future even with last night’s mistake.

Just a word about Cisse.

Did everything required of him to bag a hat trick, but equally importantly won balls, held the ball up and palyed in his mates. Best performance from him this season.
