At first i thought he'd gone right through their player, but seeing the replay, it was a fantastic challenge and fair play to the ref for getting the right decision.
Agreed - good job he got the ball as it could have easily been a penalty. Stockdale is a bit of a liability collecting the ball in crowded areas, plus his punching is hopeless.
I fully agree, if we go up I'm seriously hoping he's not going to be our number 1 as I'm miles away from being convinced about him, and neither did I like the way he stayed down holding his head until he realised that the ball had been cleared, he was obviously thinking it was going to be a certain goal after his error so he'd stay down in the hope that the ref would blow up, that bollocks up almost cost us two valuable points!
Think that was one he should have punched rather than caught - I often think he should try to collect rather than punch but this one the reverse was true. Evans' tackle was truly outstanding and he deserves a starting place for that with Meyler suspended. Gotta make Mannone or Guzan (if Villa go down) a priority signing if we get promoted - not that I'd be disappointed if we signed Stockdale as well but we need 2 quality 'keepers on our books if we are to survive in the prem, and we need genuine competition for the jersey too. Can't be relying on loans in such an important position for yet another season..... I was thinking earlier about this - it is funny; most of my time supporting City we've been lacking a solid performer in one of 3 key areas. Before we signed Brabin it was a ball-winning general that we never seemed to have. Before we re-signed Fettis and had Mussy as backup it was the 'keeper position - and before we signed Gary Alexander it was someone to hit the onion-bag. Then Bo, Ash and Burgess took on the mantle in those 3 positions and the rest is history until Marlon's "indescretion" and being forced to sell Bo. Yeah, we got Fryatt and Evans, but have never adequately replaced Bo In my opinion.
I wouldn't complain, he's been keeping Shay Given, a proven PL goalie, out of the Aston Villa first team. Few were overjoyed at Robbie Brady rejoining after his indifferent campaign last year, but look at him now. Players play differently for respective clubs or leagues; he'd easily be good enough for us, but given the choice, I'd always go for Manonne.
Stockdale is a great keeper, he was a bit overambitious with that catch and fell wrong. Would have been gutting to concede but I wouldn't blame him for not backing down.
Really? So how come he coudn't get a game at a bottom feeding PL club, and how come that when his availability was made obvious by Fulham that there wasn't a queue of PL clubs waiting to snap him him up, even if only to drop into their squads? Stockdale in a self confessed Leeds supporter, that never goes down well, and an average keeper that would be ok as a number 2 in a PL squad, in my honest opinion.
Al Habsi not getting game time at Wigan either. Spotted a picture of Given in the tabloids earlier - has a bit of a Paddy Kenny belly on him at the moment - maybe he is on a decline as a GK now
Id sign Myhill if we went up, only keeper we've had in recent years that won us 10 points a season with some great performances, and his kicking was nowhere near as bad as folk made out.
Because he has one of the PL's greatest goalkeepers in front of him and a hot prospect in Neil Etheridge behind him. He's good enough for us, I wish people would stop putting us up on a pedestal, claiming these players aren't good enough for us; we aren't a bigger club than Fulham or Villa so don't just assume that their players are suddenly crap. Stockdale has made mistakes (like Guzan did), but they are highlighted more because they are goalkeepers. Elmo made a glaring error yesterday when he passed the ball across the face of his own box (football 101) straight to their striker. I'd have said that was just as bad as any error Stockdale made.
He is from Leeds so fair play for supporting his home team. The fact he's from Yorkshire probably made the decision to come here easier too. Dudgeon is also from Leeds. I'm guessing he's a Leeds fan too. Nothing wrong with it.
