....for thinking we had a slight chance of finishing in Europe when we were 6th at Christmas. Then this happens: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...lks-with-owner-Mike-Ashley-article738641.html
Sorry but I don't see how this is relevant, most of you guys thought you were atleast going to get a Europa League spot whereas Pardew is basically just saying the club needs to aim high and sign a few quality players. Meanwhile Steve Bruce is (pathetically) banging on about how he would like to finish above Newcastle . I know what I'd rather hear my manager say: "We are realistic, but we will aim high - within the realism of our situation." If you aren't going to aim to improve there's no point in existing as a football team. This is different to you guys merely getting way ahead of yourselves and if the same thing was to happen to us next year we would get berated too, so get over it.
I don't see a massive gap between where the Toon are and a push towards 7th. What i don't see is anything in Pardew's managerial history to suggest he is the man to unearth these kinda players he's referring to. I guess they have Ben Arfa and Gosling who are like 2 new signings anyway, but the hole left by losing one of the best left backs in the league is a sizeable one, as is getting a striker, or realistically 2 or 3 strikers to replcae the horse **** they have up top. They will be as busy as us this summer, make no mistake. To aim for the top 6 for clubs of ours and Newcastle signs should be the minimum, despite the years of failure we've endured. I'd personally love to see us both in Europe, and although it ain't on the horizon, it's not an impossibility either. Sunderland v Newcastle, Europa League Final, Amsterdam 2014? What fun we'd all have.
it's just the articles headline that mentions europe, not pardew himself. i read this earlier in a different article and pardew stated that they don't expect c/l or anything but are looking to do well in the cups. i reckon he's making a lot of the right noises. we need a positive attitude like this...
can only repeat, I have had a meeting with the owner, am buzzing, we are going for top players and a go at top 6... I have had a meeting with owner, he aint happy, I'm after 3 bosmans.. I know the one I would prefer
It's all well and good using the 'bosman' tag as a rod, but the facts are due to player power more and more transfers will be done this way. Say we signed, for example, Seb Larsson for nowt, he's still the same player he would have been for ã6million. ã15-20 million rated players have gone on Bosmans, the highest profile one i'd say was Ballack, at the time he'd have been ã20million minimum. I don't see the '3 bosmans' thing as a negative, i see it as a few quid saved for a wonder striker.
And another thing, I'd rather be deluded than dare to dream. Delusion gives you hope and belief, what does a lack of it get you? **** all, only saves you a bit of grief from rival fans but if we weren't getting it for being deluded it'd be for something else anyway so **** em all. Just don't get too ahead of yourselves again if you're sitting 4th in December
I'm deluded, i kid myself every ****ing year that this arsehole of a club won't build me up then tie a knot in my bollocks and **** on my dinner. Every ****ing year man.
I just think that when we were saying about finishing around 6th we were deluded and now the mags have said the same it's perfectly realistic. I do agree with you there syd. I'm happy we are looking at a few free transfers as they may not have the big ego attached to some players but I want to hear Bruce, Quinn and Short all explaining plans for the future.
I think you is in a grumpy mood Mcduff, understandable but just think, a few weeks time and all will change.
Thing is we did have Bruce getting all delusional when he came, saying he was going to shop in Harrods and we were going to make stride forward towards the big boys. Sadly this summer we will be shopping in ASDA and looking at 2 for 1 offers on out of date stuff. After another crap season we've got no-one coming out with anything positive.
Pardew is making the right noises, but for a club where the owner wants to sell, and the fans all want the owner out. At least we havn't got that far...
