Just been looking at the northern echo, and we are once again linked with zog and defoe, and doyle again. yeah yeah old news.

But what i did find unusal about bruce's comments were his remarks about the goalkeeper, anyway here is a bit of what he has to say.

We went into the season with 24 players and five of those were loans,” said Bruce, who will turn Ahmed Elmohamady’s short-term switch into a permanent arrangement. “We have two or three not available for next year. There are seven or eight players out of 24 we have to make up for. I have to try to do something.

“I need midfield players, I’ve no real cover for full-backs. We have to be actively looking again to get in what we can. We are not alright anywhere on the pitch. We are not alright in defence, midfield or in the striker area. The goalkeeper is knackered as well.”

I still think the goalkeeper could be a big problem. Gordon looks like missing the start so we have Mig and Carson, Carson is not the man or he would have been in by now so no real cover for Mig. Who do we bring in? If we gamble on Mig staying fit and he is injured the calls for Bruce will grow, why did he let this happen. If we go for a Given type player will he be happy to be number 2 or 3 when Gordon is fit, if he is happy to be number 2, he is not now, will Mig be happy to be number 3.
If we bring in a player who is happy to revert to number 3 when Gordon is fit, will he be any better than Carson who we have. Or do we bring in a new number 1 and sell Gordon?
Not an easy one to me.

Jesus. Al Muhammady a permanent deal? If we pay more than £50 we've been robbed blind. Poor footballer IMO.

As for keeper, Mig has done well but is young and still learning his trade. Gordon has bones and muscles more brittle than candy rock and young Irishman Carson is not good enough for the EPL.

We do probably need a new keeper and I would be happy with Scott Carson from WBA. He has come back well form his England time and shown great resoluteness and bottle IMO. At 27, he is a good age as well.

I also like Ben Foster as well and he may be going cheap after tomorrow?

Agree about Gordon, I think he is a very good keeper but sometimes it just looks wrong, his injuries, dont think he had any before he came to us, his early form. Just seems that it may be we are not meant to be so a fresh start may be best for everyone.

Kingston is out of contract at Blackpool and if they go down aswell as being a former Bruce signing at his old club wouldn't be suprised if he brings him in as backup

Foster has developed into an absolutely top drawer keeper, but i reckon they'd be looking for around £10million even if they went down.

What about Paul Robinson if Blackburn drop?

He's been superb since he quit playing for England.

I'd try to recoup the money spent on the overrated Gordon and bring in Given on the cheap

No one's gonna pay decent money for a keeper who's clearly made out of eggshells ans slaver, so we're stuck with old brittle bones me thinks.

I'd be amazed if Ellis isn't pretty pissed off reading that, frankly.

Facts are it's probably right, we do need 8 or 9.

well Gordon's contract runs out next season and Brucie has spoke about not offering him a new 1 for the time being atleast

for me he doesn't play enough games

I aint saying sell him but if anyone is sniffing around him and makes a bid it would be worth considering it.

There is some good goalkeapers around in england and europe

Ben Foster, Shay Given, Ali Al Habsi, Steve Mandanda, Igor Akinfeev

    Mandanda ain't great anyway.

One of the best 'keepers i've ever is Sebastien Frey at Fiorentina, i wonder if we could pilfer him.

Florence to Sunderland though, ****ing hell.

Na he'll not be the one....

Foster is the one in the ideal world.

Much as i chuckled at your post, the facts are that Rob Green is a very good goalkeeper.

The press has made him a scapegoat, and he's forever tarnished, but i'd take him, he is a great shot stopper, wonderful reflexes.

What? I got catarrh! Seriously, though I really don't like him. In fact I ****ing hate him with a passion.

I seem to be sensing that Rob Green is not your first choice.
