Of course you don't have to agree with it. There's plenty in football people don't agree with. I can reel of a long list I don't agree with in football, but as long as it's within the set rules, then I cannot complain people use the rules for their own advantage. It's up to your club if you change you kit colour, kit badge etc. Most teams have done it at some point in their history. It's your owner's club, and if he feels this is how to take your club football, then so be it.

If you go up, which it is looking good you are now, then good luck to you. If you fiish 17th or above, then you would deserve another season of Premiership football. If you don't, you deserve relegation. Like us, Hull or whoever else joins you. People seem outraged by things that really aren't that important. There are much bigger things ruining the game of football (for me, anyway). If you actually look at the Pozzo 'model' of running a football club, I think you might agree it is quite a good way to run a sustainable football club. (Buy young promising talent, develop, sell on for a large profit).

The important thing is that the rules are changed for next season so foreign loanees are included in the five loan players per match rule.

TBH although Watford haven't literally broken any rules their policy to target and thoroughly exploit the foreign loans loophole exposes a flagrant disrespect to all other clubs and supporters.

Rules can only go so far in any sport, it's up to those who compete to show the good will that they want to do so on a fair and level playing field (don't mention the KC pitch).

Watford have left a dirty taste in the mouths of everyone who respects good sportsmanship and for that reason I personally hope they stay down this season. I also hope they suffer a return to their normal mediocre / struggling position next season when hopefully they can't abuse the system and their fellow competitors any more.

The point that consistently keeps being missed here is that the loan status isn't the problem. It's how they are signed. I agree with you that foreign loans should be included in the 5 (why aren't they already?) but that isn't the only thing that needs to change. You shouldn't be allowed to own two football clubs full stop. If we want to keep football as an entertainment spectacle and not just a business we need to stop multiple-club ownerships. Certainly in English football anyway.

As someone said above, if a top foreign team suddenly decide they want a PL team they can just buy any lower-league side, send half their reserves there and totally mess with what English football is all about in the process.

Our loans have very little to do with this case though. Our ex owner took out loans against future income, and took the money himself (we are still owed this money, but the new owners expect to have to write this off as a bad-debt). The problem was, and why this case has come about, is he didn't declare the loans to the football league, probably so he wouldn't be found out about what he was doing. The panel took this into consideration, hence why the punishment wasn't as bad as some of our rival fans are crying about

Kev, it was Watford FC that took out the loans, and who didn't declare them to the FL, not Bassini. As that is against Regs I think that you have got off rather lightly

Well its difficult to say as it hasn't happened.

But my first thought would probably be to the fans, who would basically be shafted by a rich bloke wanting to make money by using you as a youth academy. Which he is doing now, in effect, just with more success.

It needed to be stopped, because it isn't fair on other clubs and could equally be unfair on yourselves.

It isn't fair. There is no justification for it.

What Watford are doing isn't in the spirit of the game and for that reason your club's reputation will be tarnished for a long time after this, (no matter how successful you are).
Watford have exploited the rules to an extent that other clubs can't (because of your owner's advantages) and so you have gained an unfair advantage over the rest.

Not only the rules have to be observed but their good intentions. If there was some loophole that neglected banning sharp spikes protuding from shin-guards you or anyone else could argue that it was perfectly legal and therefore gain an initial advantage before the rules could be changed. However the unwritten moral codes of sport are known to us all and no matter how cleverly Watford argue their case they will remain 'cheats' in the true sense of the word.

They've found a loophole and fair play to them. But it gives Watford Football Club a massively unfair advantage where they can pick from one of Europe's biggest clubs willy nilly with some very valuable talent. For free.

Sorry if you think thats fair, but i'm going to disagree with you and agree with the masses (including the Football League) and say its completely unfair. Which is why the loophole will be closed in preseason and Watford have been given a transfer embargo.

It seems only you and Watford fans think they're in the right.

AKCJ the reason Watford have been given a transfer embargo has nothing to do with them using the foreign loan loophole. It was in relation to their failure to submit documentation to the FL with their transfer dealings whilst Bassini was the owner. It's a completely different issue

Our owners does give us an 'advantage' yes, but it's well within the written rules of the game. Besides, in two years time when FFP takes full effect we'll be at the same level as everyone else.

Would you say that Manchester United would then have a massive advantage over Manchester City because they have a bigger fan base? Thus being able to rake in more money through ticket sales to buy better players with? Surely you do. Because by your logic every club should have exactly the same chance as every other club.

Fact is, there are written rules that Watford have avoided to claim a seriously unfair advantage. My point would be just as valid if they were mugging off clubs at the other end of the scale in the relegation scrap. Would it not? They're cheating their way to more money. We are not. Geddit?



We asked your owners to speak to Nigel Pearson and they accepted. We did absolutely nothing wrong there so that comes accross as 'whining'. Sorry mate, big fish eats small fish i'm afraid. Although obviously to you that's unfair in your idealistic world.

As for our financial dealings, they (basing on reported figures, nothing official as clubs havn't released them yet) are significantly less than yours this season. So please don't get into that argument.

I'm whining yes. I'm not going to just sit here and watch football clubs with real fans get short changed because another club has gained an unfair advantage over them. I guarantee you'll be frustrated when they get promoted ahead of you.

As for our club having 'yet another season when we'll achieve fook all'. First of all, people in glass houses and also there is still a very good chance that you'll miss out on 2nd (i've already got money on Cardiff/Watford) and lose in the play-offs. Your overconfidence in a team thats lost 3 in 5 and conceded 10 goals is, frankly, hilarious.

ive never been keen on the loan system , of any type , theres enough of a merry-go-round as it is .

In Watfords last game 7 players took to the pitch that are currently on loan , at least another was on loan until end Jan .
we play with 4 . . 5 when Fatti gets on again far too many IMO !

In which there is a football sub section, in which there is a 'Championship' sub section and in which there is a 'Hull City' sub section. Honestly, you signed up to a multi-club forum.
