Not on his own, no, but together with another new more experienced goalscorer*, yes. I think his style of play would probably suit us.

* as long as Ade doesn't score 15 goals in the last games of the season, of course..... :emoticon-0100-smile

"Actually I'm not going there, the defence of youngsters is far too vociferous on here, but let me say this, its a fact of football that only a very select one or two make it through at top clubs, a lot of the youngsters being drooled over are not going to make it here."

Defence ??

I have been accused by some of "glory hunter" tendencies because I lamented the 2nd half
performance by the Nextgencibles against Anderlecht. And slapped down some who had
Coulibaly down as the next best thing since sliced bread while seeing nothing more than the
SpursOfficial clip of the Inter Milan mauling. :-)

Yes, those that will fall by the wayside is high.
But having taken the opportunity to watch the kids, you can see that something very
fundamental is happening in the coaching setup. From how the kids are playing the
basic game, to the fact that there is no "big kids" mentality (Pritchard, Munns etc) .

This does not mean that the Academy is now a Messi-making machine.
But I'll wager I'll soon see more kids coming thru into the seniors in twos and threes, and
more regularly, since for me what would be the days of Falco, Hazard etc in the early 80s.

You've picked a good example in Coulibaly, I've seen suggestions to 'give him a go' in this seasons cup games by some, as you say on the strength of a few good games here and there. Thats who my comments are directed at, those who know better, obviously not. I've seen since, can't recall if its you or SC who've said he has stalled a bit since, proving the stupidity of the suggestions.

I've spoke about 2 other players and still stand by what I've seen, its only an opinion after all, neither is it hard and fast, all opinions are subject to change, through debate or witnessing first hand. :)

It was me who reported on Coulibaly's progress or lack of it.

As you know, he hit the ground running in his early days, his performance in the 7-0 Inter Milan thrashing was genuinely awesome (I was there). Without exaggeration, that Spurs performance that afternoon was as good a performance as you could wish to see from a Spurs team at any level.

A cynic might be tempted to suggest he's dined out on that display ever since. I don't think he has, but it's resonable to say he's struggled recently. His mitigating circumstances for this are genuine. There were real scary issues with his work permit, he suffered an injury which should have had surgery, but the club preferred to rest him, so he missed valuable playing time. Plus he has been genuinely struggling to settle and suffers from acute home sickness, hence his current loan move.

As for on the pitch, he doesn't get involved in the normal passages of play, appearing occasionally on the periphery, only to suddenly appear out of nowhere to bang in an absolute belter of a goal. He does little else.

The current status is he's out on loan to where he wants to be. Our coaches are ok with this at the moment, but only for the moment. When he returns, he needs to show immediate signs of more commitent and a desire to regain his position in the pecking order ahead of Coulthirst, who has now ahead of him.

notso :

The sad thing about Livermore, goes back to something Spurcat wrote some time ago.
He was quite happy that Livermore had managed to break into the seniors, because
of all the loanees, he apparently had been farmed out the most. And SC thought that
if he was loaned once more at that time, his future as a Spurs player was probably over.

I don't know if a similar sentiment is happening with looklike, who has recently been
saying that Livermore could become a decent CB (perhaps sensing his future in MF
means his Spurs days are again under threat) .

Perhaps we collectively are too harsh because with ENIC putting in no money, the
stakes are high. For every poor Ade/Defoe performance like yesterday, so our desire
for Kane and Obika (and probably quite soon Coulthirst) to make it increases. For every time
CM misses Modric, so our desire for Carroll (and soon Pritchard) to step up increases.

It would be nice for the seniors to deliver what Levy demands, if only to buy some time for
the kids to develop just that bit more leisurely, and without the pressure or hype.

With the summer coming up, would you really be happy if we signed Welbeck and no other striker? I don't rate him.

Welbeck is keeping Rooney out of the team, so that tells you something.

For what it's worth, I think he'd be the sort of player who could flourish at Spurs.

I've repped you accordingly. <ok>

Welbeck is going nowhere. A lot of time and effort has been spent in his development . He's not been scoring many of late, but his pace, his tireless running, his holding up of the ball, his ability to occupy defenders and push teams back has made him priceless. His form of late has been exceptional. Adebayor has done some similar work for Spurs, if not as obvious.

It tells me this, I've no idea why, i think I need Luke to explain tbh. Welbeck has scored 2 goals all season...TWO! one league goal and we're in March, the other was the Madrid goal. Why does the forward with the worst goal scoring record get picked ahead of Rooney and Hernandez?

Edit - you wouldn't believe that would you, he posts while I'm typing!

Given the current standard of our strike force, as PNP advocated, I'd be very happy with Welbeck. However, I agree, Lukaku looks to be a cut above. Unfortunately, I can't see The Chavs letting him go.

Steve Clarke has already told West Brom fans to forget about him being at the Hawthorns next season, which suggests to me that they already know he's going to be used by Chelsea.
Benteke would be a decent shout and we're being linked with Higuian, though I can't see that happening.

<ok>

I'm glad you've put that, at the time I hadn't seen the Inter game, but watched those you could get online after to get a look, I thought exactly that, and thought are this lot having a laugh, and same as the AVB thing felt it better to say nothing, such was the swell of expectation on here. There's times when I feel I'm constantly saying the opposite so tend to leave it, which is silly really, its all about having a natter.

Don't usually ask this but considering the healthy debate this has raised any chance of a few rep bars?
After all some of you have some to spare- just sayin'<whistle>

Hi PL. personally, I couldn't give a toss about this rep bollocks. The more red bars I get, the more Infantile Goons & Mousers I've wound up. However, if you want loads of it, there's an Aussie guy called Musty Frog - I think he's a Swansea man. A few of us posted some rather unkind things about he Goons and got loads of points. It's going to take me months of winding up Peskie, Astroturd, and the like to get my little red bars back <laugh>

Would love to see Lukaku in a spurs shirt too.
However, I think we'll have Benteke next season. Once again, no marquee striker, but someone young who has shown promise.

Perryman, I've charged u up a bit too. <ok>
