I think your jumping the gun abit here, I think it's unfair to judge any manager by what goes on at Chelsea.

AVB has a good philosophy on how football should be played, and Chelsea for years have played in a somewhat defensive manner. Which was started under Mourinho.

AVB was trying to get them to play in a more expansive manner, playing a very high line, pressing the opposition, and after a few bad results playing that way, the Chelsea players rather than stick with it lost faith in the manager, and clearly weren't giving there best for the manager on the field.

Spurs got off to a slow start this season, playing AVBs way, but they stuck with the manager and gave there best for him and now there seeing good results, as the team is now beginning to master his philosophy.

Chelsea were also a very old experienced team, so maybe AVBs age counted against him a little, as he was younger than some of his players. So some of them maybe didn't respect his standing in the game, in the same way they respected Ancelotti:biggrin:

I think they have a lot of good players - Vertonghen, Lennon, Sandro, Dembele, Walker, and even Defoe is playing pretty well for them. If they lost Bale they would be weaker, but no weaker imo than Arsenal, Chelsea without Mata, and City without Yaya and Aguero. If they lose Bale they will be screwed, but if they can hold on to him and use the extra CL money they could get to bring in some good players I think they could be as strong as anyone. Although their squad is thin so they will be reliant on avoiding injuries.

with Bayern having a few injuries and suspensions, do you give Arsenal a chance. I think they might run Bayern close

Reckon they may score a couple, but will probably leak too. 2-1 Arsenal or 3-2 Arsenal is possible, but I don't think they'll have enough to get through.

Wilshere injured and missing for a few months again, who would've guessed it?

I hope Bayern play their second string and still win 5-0. <laugh>

Bayern are only really missing Schweinsteiger and Ribery from the first leg, Luis Gustavo and Robben aren't exactly bad replacements for those two, and Arsenal will be without Wilshere and possibly Sagna, I really can't see anything but a Bayern win to be honest.

Bang goes Wilshere, bang goes Arsenal. If he's only out for three weeks they have a shout at top four, but if he's out for longer they'll struggle to hold of Everton and Liverpool for 5th and 6th.

Not that cut and dried, IMO. Least we forget that we actually started the season in decent shape without Wilshere. In fact in terms of a midfield unit, Diaby,Arteta and Cazorla looked more balanced and our best performances as a team (Liverpool and City away) came when those three played in the same midfield.

The runaway leaders in the German league certainly taught Arsenal a lesson this evening.

True that, but I still don't think any of them are reds. Accidents happen and in football **** happens, just have to move on.

Although I think Shwan is just feeling a sense of injustice due to the lack of consistency being shown.

I agree, there is lack of consistency, but it's been that way since referees were introduced. Like you said, **** happens, we can all feel rightly aggrieved when something negative happens to our team but time to move on. I would've actually preferred United to progress as the CL is boring as **** without an English team in it!

First of all, defensive manner? <laugh> bollocks. We currently hold the record for most goals scored in a PL season AND for the most points. Both records achieved under and post Mourinho. Football should be played in any way a manager wants, there is no right and wrong if it falls under the laws of the game. Defence is just as important as attack.

Apart from that I agree with you. Our players and structure at the club clashed with AVB's philosphy/man management techniques and unfortunately wasn't a match for Chelsea at the current time.

I think he could've saved his job had he just played the players with experience instead of being a stubborn little prick and trying to oust them quickly. There are also a few negative stories told by youth players about the way they were treated under AVB, on top of the isolation of certain senior players. He tried to assert power ASAP, which was wrong considering he was a mere scout just a few years ago.

I think AVB could potentially be a top manager. His age clearly got the better of him during his time with us and he'll only learn from his mistakes I'm sure. I said at the time I didn't want him to be sacked but in hindsight we had one of our most successful seasons in our history AND one of the best nights of my, and a lot of my friends and families, lives. So I don't really have any regrets about his sacking (if that makes sense).

Yeah I was rooting for Arsenal to overturn Bayern so there was at least one English team to follow. They done well but they just had too much to do in the end. Certainly made Bayern look beatable though, maybe the talk of them being on par with or better than Barcelona and Real Madrid will pipe down a bit now. Also might give Arsenal the boost they need in the league too to go for that 4th spot!

tbf, Arsenal and Spurs are two teams I just can't cheer on. No matter if they're the only ones left. I presume you wouldn't be able to cheer on Liverpool too and vice versa. Apart from that I always want the English sides to progress as far as possible, helps the coefficient and makes it more exciting to watch. I agree that Arsenal were brilliant tonight though, have to applaud them for that. However I hope you're wrong about it giving them a boost for top 4 <laugh>
