As we seem to be after 2 quite similar similar utility midfielders is this the kind of thing we ahould expect or is it just 1st and 2nd choice and we'll only get one?

    A keeper

    Rosenior, Chester, Hobbs, Ayala, Dudgeon

    Danns, Koren, Norris

    Fryatt, Iwelumo

Stewart (when fit) and Koren interchangeable to give us different options (really playing a free role but Danns/Norris have permission to go beyond them if the other is holding)

This would more likely suit a 3-5-2 surely? With dudgeon and rosenior getting forward to provide an outlet?

Yeah they would be, but I'm a bit old school on that and wingbacks are part of a 532. Otherwise what's the formation if you took out Dudgeon and Rosenior for Garcia and Stewart? They'd be very different systems and the latter would be a 352.

Well we've been putting pressure on the full backs to provide it even when we've gone 442, and if we go 532 it brings Stewart/Koren back into the middle of the pitch where they seem more effective and puts them in a role with little defensive work to do, and it also stops NP having the temptation to play Simpson or McLean out wide. All positives for me.

It wouldn't be a bad shout to play mcclean out wide. He's a bit of a ***an, quick, hard worker who'll trouble the opposition full back. The only question is could he cross a ball?

He could put in a powerful drive across the 6-yard box for Iwelumo to miss an open goal. Easy! ;)

would be tempted to put evans in the centre then give the other mids more freedom to do what they want. Could work i suppose, no more goals let in on breaks :)

Tbh it is a system now that we have some like Dudgeon who has played further up the pitch that could work well, Chester can be the ball carrier from the back alongside Ayala who could do that role to. The three midfielders could consist of Koren/Evans/Danns/Norris/ and i know there are a couple more on the shortlist also.

The only downside is where do you fit Stewart into this, he was our best player for me Rosenior when he got injured so he has to come back in but where? Up top alongside Fryatt maybe?

It's not an issue until November, but I'd be tempted to give him a free role (like we'd do with Koren when he played) because he was much more effective upfront than out left and the free role would mean he could use his pace to run at the centrebacks instead of the full back and cause more problems. That or have him and Simpson come on up front after an hour against defenders who've been knocked about a bit by Iwelumo and have lost a bit of pace.

I agree when he was up top he is a far better player when he has defensive duties aswell as attacking ones. He is a top player and we need to make the most of him when we can, but fair we have a quarter of a season before we really need to worry about that.
