This subject has been brought up on another thread, so I was wondering, what is everyone's worst ever performance? I'll go for the 0-1 against Wycombe under Uncle Les. My abiding memory is of Jimi Traore, in his own half with no-one near, taking a couple of paces and wellying the ball out for a goal-kick. When a group of fans started to booo him he turned round, looked at them and shrugged his shoulders.

One tat still irks me is Blackburn away (Operation Ewood).

We still had a chance and seemed confident - from memory Carson made his only mistakes of the season and Thatcher may have been sent off?

Maybe not the worst performance but definitely the most disappointed I've been with any XI.

Good question. One that stands out for me was losing 1-0 at home to Bolton (Nolan the scorer). Bent got injured before the game do bothroyd started. To say we never looked like scoring would be an understatement.

But we've had several stinkers in recent years. Saturday, we were outclassed. I wouldn't say it was the worst performance I've seen by us.

I know its pretty recent but the 4-0 battering to Millwall a few years back was shocking

Losing 1-0 at home to Walsall a few years ago has to be up there.

That was the game I took a load of 7/8-year-olds to, when I helped run a football club for primary school kids. Apart from FHB jnr. none of them became Charlton fans, in spite of the fact that the club didn't charge a penny!

It's not a straightforward judgement. We really have seen some dross in the last few years. I missed Saturday but my mate said it was up there with the worst he's seen. The difference though is that despite justifiable criticism of CP's tactical shortcomings and the obvious playing inadequacies, we have an emotional attachment to him and to this team thanks to last season that I for one certainly didn't have for Parky or his band of misfit loanees towards the end. Therefore I'll always feel that performances by that team were worse mainly because I got to the point where I didn't care. At present, although we are poorer than we like to pretend, I still desperately want CP and the majority of the current team to get it right. I therefore don't put current performances (of which Barnsley was the worst I've seen this year) quite up there with the worst I remember just yet. Sheff United as previously mentioned and Forest when the little welsh fella whose name escapes me lobbed our keeper from 30 yards stuck in my mind as the lowest points. I.e. I stopped going for a few months at that point. Having said all that, even though I missed Saturday, I can't ever recall seeing a statistic of one effort on goal before, even in the really bad old days

The BBC gave us one shot on target. I actually said on the way out that even though we didn't really have a shot on target the Beeb would accredit us with one. Although we were outclassed we never stopped trying, which is what has happened at one or two games mentioned here. To get some perspective on The Doctor's managerial ability , you have to look at our squad and count how many have actually played at this, and a higher, level.

Agree FHB that CP is to some extent making a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Thats one of the reasons I'm still right behind him. The frustration for me this year has been the very defensive formations at home, the reluctance to play with width and the regular hoofball. While we have to a great degree been getting a lot out of limited resources, the fact is that on the odd occasion when we have played football we have actually looked really good - half an hour against Derby was the best I've seen us. Not just trying our heart out but actually playing really good football. The fact that we clearly have that in us just adds to the frustration when we set up like we were defending Fort Knox. I'd rather go out there with an offensive formation an be entertained even if we did collect the occasional drubbing as a result. At the moment we are being defensive and still losing. We shouldn't lose sight of the fact though that surviving at all this season is a real achievement. Whether that will be enough if there is no sign of ambition or investment to persuade me to part with 440 big ones for a season ticket next year is debatable at the moment.

Sheffield United had the advantage of getting rid of Pardew but the disadvantage of bringing in a Caretaker Manager who would be judged on results <whistle>

We might have had some nice passages of play but as long as we've got a soft centre in midfield that's all it will be.

    Sadly true.
