Walsall home 0 1 and Swindon at home 1 4 I think it was .... Though we were treated to an Pawell Abbott wonder goal in that game it was live on TV and many had left before Abbotts strike Parky left too soon after
Had a real long think about this to discard all the games where we were outplayed/out-thought (3-0 away at Stockport when we were way top of the league), got thumped but played valiantly (7-0 against Brighton would be in this category) or hyped out of sight and lost ignominiously (both the 'Operation' games under this heading). Have to agree that the away game against Dagenham and Redbridge was the worst I've ever seen, completely clueless and with certainly one of the worst individual performances from a Charlton player I've ever seen from McOxo. All this compounded by the ghastly abuse Carl Jenkinson got when he came out for the second half made for a thoroughly miserable day.
I think it was 2-4 against Swindon. I only watched it on TV, but I thought they were reasonable value for it, just like Brighton were for the 0-4. No mention for Northwich Victoria. One game sticks out for me. 2-2 at home against the Daggers. Probably not as bad as the away match, but only had to hold onto the lead for 2 minutes....... Also any game involving Tranmere Rovers
Northwich is a very good shout. I think I had erased that from my memory. First season in league one, losing 3-0 to Colchester away? Miguel lleras error prone 90 minutes.
Some of these spring to mind: 5-2 vs. Sheffield United 2-2 vs. Blackpool (the day we got relegated to League One) 0-4 vs. Millwall 4-0 vs. Brighton The Blackpool one probably irritated me the most, as we were winning 2-0 and we gave away a penalty and Hughes scored in the last minute of play.
Operation Ewood almost drove me to tears. The coach home was surreal - everyone knew we were all but relegated at that point, but I had some irritating arse sat a couple of rows behind me, repeating 'We can still stay up, we can still stay up.' Void of confidence and creativity, passionless and an insult to paying fans. Awful.
I've just read through the entire thread and it makes you realise what Charlton has put us all through over the years, especially when you consider the (cup)games that no-one has mentioned, or the 1-3 at home to Barnsley, pardew's second last home game. Not recommended as bed-time reading.
I am still of the opinion that Pardew picked teams to deliberately get sacked....playing players out of position (starting 'The Count' in left mid when he was the only fit left back in the team!) and very poor match tactics almost forced Dicky to sack him and let Pardew pass GO and collect £1.5m Pardew was obviously worried that the Club would run out of cash and wouldn't be able to afford his redundancy pay off if he was sacked later in the season.
