Don't know where you're planning on visiting, but as already mentioned, I think, Galway is fantastic. Just north is Connemara and to the south, in County Clare is the Burren, a weird limestone region with indigenous alpine plants growing. And the cliffs of Moher, which are awesome <ok>

Further south and the 'ring of Kerry' takes you on a circular tour where you'll end quite close to Cork, another wonderful city. Try a pint in the Franciscan Well brew pub, if you get that far south <cheers>

Favourite European city is Copenhagen and even though I'm not one for the tourist hotspots, I would recommend going on a boat tour around and through the city.

Bruges for the beer and Cala D'Or in Majorca for the relative quietness.

Banff is incredible. Pretty high up though if I remember, a couple of my squad got altitude nosebleeds!

We went on a tour of the Rocky Mountains in winter which I thoroughly recommend, among other things I saw a waterfall which was frozen on the top but running underneath, and had a snowball fight up there too.
 
There seems to be a lot of love for Italy and Canada so far - but hardly any mentions for the Caribbean or South America?

Good that fans of other clubs are happy to share their positive experiences on here as well. <ok>

I guess in the case of Italy it's proximity, and I guess in general the lack of a language barrier in North America is attractive. I've never looked into it, but I imagine flights to the Carribean and further south would be more expensive too?

But wouldn't France be better for proximity?

Anyway, France is great, the Dordogne region, areas around Nice are fantastic and around Poitier.

I've been to Colombia, Peru and Brazil. Stayed in Leticia (Colombia) for a while which is right on the border of all three. Very much off the beaten track in Amacayacu National Park. Absolutely beautiful rainforest area.

I've always liked the areas of France I've visited, but I never enjoyed it as much as Italy. I guess it's a combination of distance and how nice it is that means Italy is getting all the praise. I suppose most people have visited France too, so it's not so much a place to recommend.
 
Language-Barrier argument doesn't really hold for well over half of Canada, DH <doh>

the Rocky Mountains and the surrounding area (frozen lakes, elk, timber wolves, etc...) is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. (Don't tell the lady friend)

Still coming down from the match, but back to this.

As Cromer and others mentioned, the obvious tourist spots - Lakes of Killarney / Ring of Kerry / Dingle Peninsula, Galway (great for a night out), and including Connemara. Co. Clare is great, well worth taking a boat from here to the Aran Islands (and don't miss 'Durty Nelly's, my favourite Irish pub, opposite Bunratty Castle).

Wicklow mountains and Glendalough in Co Dublin excellent - take St Kevins bus service from Dublin, a great journey. I grew up spending whole summers in Co Tipperary, which I have great affection for as I have most of my relatives there. Not touristy at all, but wonderful and welcoming. Going to Kilkenny this year, as I have relatives there I haven't met, so looking forward to that.

The Northwest counties, Sligo, Mayo, Donegal have amazing unspoilt beaches.

I don't know about that, French is only widely spoken in Quebec, so hardly half the country, wiki reckons 22% of Canada speak French as a first language, with many also speaking English. You still stand a much better chance of finding a fluent English speaker in North America than you do any European country with the possible exception of the Netherlands.

point is, Canada earns its reputation for me.

Banff is brilliant camped out there twice as my best mate married a Canadian and immigrated to Calgary. If you want a less packed out national park check out Kananaski National Park as there is a lot less tourists then Banff, also just over the border near Creston British Colombia there is some excellent scenery.

Whereabouts in the country did you go? I'm toying with going inter-railing again this summer, and looking at maybe Zagreb or Dubrovnik as a stop (or 2).

Dubrovnik is excellent Cromer - picturesque, friendly, compact and reasonably priced. Great seafood restaurants and well worth a visit.

Just on Canada - Banff is a wonderful place as outlined above - Jasper and Waterton are excellent too. Canada wins it for me - best place I've ever visited and plan to go back in 2015 (have friends in Lthbridge, Alberta) and visit Vancouver next time.

Enjoy Dubrovnik if you go.
