Do any of our marvellous posters' ( not posers) have any information on the construction of the hallowed KC turf?. Is a weave of grass / synthetic stuff and if so how much is actual garss. Why has it suddenly become so threadbear?
It is, or should I say was, stitched with plastic fibres when it waa first laid to (in theory) make it harder wearing for both football and (Ugh) rugby. Its the reason it doesn't really cut up and being a harder/firmer surface gives a higher bounce than a normal pitch. Its also the reason why it just goes threadbare arther than cuts up with the onset of cold winter weather and the lack of sunlight. They took the top surface off in the close season (which being stitched I didn't think they were able to) and reseeded it. So am a little bemused myself now. Either way we need to invest in a set of those mobile high intensity lamps to grow the grass should we get promoted this season to the PL. Problem solved .
Actually, I thought the pitch looked a tad better on Tuesday. But this current cold spell won't be doing it any good. We need a week or two of daytime temperatures over 6c.
It hasn't, the pitch is better this year than most previous years. We've had these exact same discussions every year we've been at the KC and then it recovers magically around end of March. Funny eh? And it was weaved with a synthetic element and was designed never to be dug up in its lifetime. People forgot this and we ****ed it up even more last year by digging it up in the pre-season beforehand. There never was a parasitic worm. FACT.
The pitch might not be perfect, but it's nowhere near the ****ty state it was at this time last season.
