The egg-chasers have already got a major road named after one of their heroes - Clive Sullivan Way. What more do they want?

With City at a very low ebb in the early 80s when the road was named, and the local rugby teams thrashing Huyton, Hunslet and Rochdale Hornets, you can see how a rugby player could achieve a stature and high profile that would not have been on the radar if City had been doing well.

What’s all this bollocks about no sentiment in business? Any sensible business is receptive to public opinion and will fare better if it serves it, to some favourable and well publicised degree, in, preferably, some mutually self-serving manner.

I agree with those that say this is a front in a longer tactical battle to gain their property ambitions. I don’t find those ambitions repulsive or unethical, as long as they are carried through in the correct manner; any improvement to Hull is welcome and it will take private capital to kick-start it.

What I do think is sad is that they (Allam’s) have thrown the baby out with the bathtub. They needed to take some action to recoup some of their losses and, more importantly, as a catalyst to opening this debate that has enabled them to issue their statement and the facts of the matter. They also needed to appear as hard-nosed businessmen with a soft-centre regarding the traditions and sporting heritage of Hull. I think that the Windass goal and the Johnny Whiteley memorabilia are appropriate exceptions to the general policy of renting space. For the loss of a little financial capital, they would have accrued much more value from the PR capital of offering that simple sop to the rugby supporters. I am happy watching either the Tigers or FC and it is sad that this has allowed such a bitter argument between the two ground-sharing disciplines. It allows fools from both sides and all corners to come on here and other sites and spout their bile that does nothing but highlight their own moral worth (or lack of it) and cause a sense of bitterness that does nothing for the sporting future of the City and the children who will grow to support it.

The Allam’s have missed a trick here and that is a shame as their motives are just and ethical; this does not quite let Pearson off the stick, as he has to fill that deafening silence and respond accordingly, just as the council buffoon must also do.

Clive Sullivan just happened to peg it at the right time. That's why the A63 road carries his name.

It was a decision with which I disagreed at the time because it was a short-term populist move with no thought for the long term.

Wilberforce Way should have been used.

    But hey ho

It's possible Adam Pearson's said nothing because he's sat with his head in his hands praying for the FC fans to put the lid back on the worm tin.

@angus_young61: More details on how the SMC subsidises #HullFC in tomorrow's #hulldailymail including astonishing ticket buy-up agreement.

To think. if they'd just paid the £20.

Well put Fez but I disagree in part. Namely allowing the FC ****wits to carry on as they have done would not help one little bit. They feel entitled and resent any and all deeds performed by the Allams, and they certainly do not like the attention the mighty Tigers get as the premier sporting team in the City. They will never acknowlege that their ****ty little tinpot club which plays in a minority sports league would have no where to play without them.

So allowing the ****tards to carry on using a room as a shrine to someone the majority of us appear to have never heard of would generate zero good will, and in fact would likely just encourage the lardy asshats.

I'm assuming these are the same morons who throw stuff at buses after games?

It was gonna be named Kingstonian Way If I remember rightly and just as it was about to open Clive Sullivan died of cancer at the early of 42.

Sad for the guy but typical of the Council then (and now) to be made up of eggchasing councillors. Easy decision for them.

By comparison we struggled to get a road named after one of our greats, Raich Carter(Way) the main road from Kingswood to Beverley by pass twenty odd years later even when Kingswood is Needler family development

Just trying to find the council's and Hull FC's statements and replies to the SMC statement on the HDM (can anyone post a link? that website is a maze). Just seen FC fans saying we should pay twice the amount of rent as them and then there wouldn't be any problems.

I'd be happy to pay twice the amount of rent as them, once they're playing on a school playing field with a couple of wooden benches and plastic chairs dotted around the edge (it's only a matter of time, long live Dr. Allam).

These people really don't know their arse from their elbow do they <laugh>

Don't you vote in your local council via the general election?

I really do not know, I couldn't give a toss about politics as they're all ****s, they'll never keep 50% of people happy, so I just do my voting purely on the local policies.

To me it's seems that the neanderth'Ulls' of old school Labour that populate our council need to take a long hard look at themselves. Their outdated approach to 'entitlement' is summed up by another story in the HDM.

Labour's Diana Johnson is whingeing about the cuts to Hull City Council funding from central government, and how we are having a £200 ish per person reduction compared to the "wealthier areas".

What about those "wealthier areas" greater contribution in taxes per person, compared to that of Hull? If Miss Johnson represented one of those wealthier areas, would be she advocating that their residents pay even more in tax so that Hull didn't have to face cuts?

I'm sick to the back teeth of people, not just in Hull - but we have a lot of them - with a sense of entitlement to be able to spend money despite the making of it being someone else's problem.

you're missing the point. sullivan played for hull and rovers. he's still hull's leading try scorer. on top of that, he was captain of the great britain team that won the r.l. world cup in 1972. there aren't many others in the northern hemisphere who can claim to have captained a r.l. world cup winning team.

Try living in his OPE Ward would be a good start. Removing him from his role in the Cabinet may be a bit easier.

If you don't understand the basics of local politics perhaps you shouldn't complain too much about the ******s that are often elected.

Like Presidents of the United States the people that vote for them deserve everything they get.
