He's missed a couple of good chances but set up a goal, had what looked like a clear penalty denied, and looked very good otherwise. One goal/one assist, one pen wrongly denied and three missed excellent chances in three games is just about what Adebayor's done over the course of his career.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Togo_national_football_team#Africa_Cup_of_Nations_record Did not qualify, withdrew, did not enter and round 1 seem to be popular with them!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21269902 Don't like the sound of this at all. Minnows going on a cup run Come back Ade, all is forgiven!
Oh bollocks, I didn't realise that they were up against Burkina Faso. I just assumed that they were playing someone decent.
The disparity between the two sides of the draw is ridiculous. On one side you have Ghana, Cape Verde, Togo and Burkina Faso, on the other side you have South Africa, Mali, Nigeria and Ivory Coast. It would be pretty surprising if Ghana failed to make the final.
Ivory Coast look like they're in a different league to everyone else, though. They should still win it.
So we've won, drawn and lost in the absence of Ade. Would we have fared any better with him is an unanswerable question. Trouble is we need him now but I'd be tempted to have Demps and Kane.
I can only assume that they came to the same conclusion, Tots! Their squad was head and shoulders above everybody else, but they failed to perform on the day. Good job I'm not a betting man.
Anyone able to confirm when Ade is back with us? I would have thought he could come straight back from South Africa and be available for this weekend, but AVB was indicating a return date between the Newcastle and EL games. As there is little time zone issue to cause jet lag, I would expect him to be ready to play pretty much as soon as he gets back to the UK. Here's hoping for a revitalised Ade this weekend!!
Surely they will be pushing for him to come back ASAP. Jump on a plane today, maybe get tomorrow off and then back to training lad!
I did have this feeling Adebayor would string this out and turn up tired and not at his best, its not like we pay his wages.....
there was an interview with him the other day in which he said "i'm physically exhausted" so i expect hes been making the most of being in Africa enjoying a few days off before he comes back and tells Villas Boas "I'm still tired boss".
