Except we came into the window needing a striker, as we do every window. It closes without us signing a striker. Look at the league table - the goals scored column does not lie. We create enough chances but cannot convert. It's not rocket science.

How the frig is Gedo not a striker?

We got it done at the start of the window the other year, with a 50% success rate.

This is the only time I will credit Nigel Pearson. He gets all his business done early, that way he isn't scrabbling around the dregs at the 11th hour.

you engage your brain and point out to me where in your post it said anything about 'proven in the Championship'.

Precisely - Gedo isn't proven in this league or for that matter outside Egypt. A huge gamble by the club IMHO to expect him to spearhead our attack and get us the goals we'll need for promotion. Still a striker short, it 's not overly difficult to grasp is it? I am delighted with the other business - but that may all be in vain if we haven't got the finishing capability. Palace have the leading scorer and adding Dobbie and Phillips. Leicester have Nugent, Waghorn and added Woods, Cardiff have added Greedy Bastard. We've added an unknown quantity to a team that already has a far inferior GD to the teams around us.

To be quite honest, I'd much sooner take a punt on a potential star who really wants to prove his worth in England (certainly a star where he came from) then an ageing journeyman who's done alright here and there. I'm happy with what we've got, it's already alot better than what I expected. It's not like we've go the entire season to see through either, Aluko will be back, Proschwitz is just starting to get a run, maybe Gedo will compliment him perfectly allowing him to play the way he knows and he'll start smashing them away? He certainly has the finishing ability if he gets the chance in front of goal.

Was reading Gedos profile, he gets goals but seems to be an impact player off the bench more than anything. Hopefully all these Egyptians will egg each other on and make up for any shortcoming for our standard of football. I'm not sure about this Jackson, it's a shame if we sign somebody just for the sake of getting a player in on deadline day but there's been quite a while to get a good striker in this months window.

You need, in my opinion a striker proven at this level. Most other teams in the top 6 have, we haven't.

Didn't Gedo win the 'Golden Boot' after Egypt won the African Nations? IMO the standard of that tournament is better than the Championship. Messi isn't proven in the Championship.

I very much doubt Cardiff or Leicester could beat Egypt.

Theres only a couple of properly decent sides in the ACoN, and even then, they are missing half their best players due to the rules that only so many players are allowed to play in foreign leagues, so really the standard is pretty ****e. They should just let the teams choose whoever they like, it would improve the appeal to the tournament massively, although I guess it would become alot less competitive in the sense that thered be the same few teams pushing to win it every time and not an open playing field so I guess it's a good move.

Back in 2010 was stronger, and the standard is low compared to European and South American teams however the standard is still stronger than the Championship bar a handful of poor teams. Gedo is more than proven at a higher level than we are and WILL score more than DJC, SEB and Phillips, watch this space.

Not saying he won't come good, Ahly are possibly the best team in Africa and Egypt one of the better national teams down there, their fans will see talent on a regular basis and know a good player when they see one. They all seem to rate him highly so I'll take their word for it, his youtube videos (I know I know) seem to back this up.

I'm just saying, I wouldn't compare the ACoN to the Championship, half the players he'd have been playing against are 100th rate domestic players who probably stop by a puddle and collect a jug of water on their way home from a match as they're only allowed to pick a couple from foreign leagues.

Agreed. You only have to watch an African game for 5 mimnutes to see the standard is miles of English football. It's absolute ****e. Entertaining in a comedy kind of way but the football itself is shoddy.

That said, I hope londontiger is right!
