We did that plenty last season and people just moaned that we didn't beat the lower teams. Patience is required. people need to deal with that. The collider will be switched back on next year <ok>

But we would still beat some teams below us, this year we aren't beating any team above us.

Yeah we really need to put some space between us and West Brom/Swansea too, they're 1 point behind and all it takes is 1 lost game for them to take advantage!

With all due respect to them, we shouldn't be looking down at those teams.

Looking at our remaining fixtures:

Manchester City
West Brom
Swansea
Wigan
Tottenham
Southampton
Aston Villa

West Ham
Reading
Chelsea
Newcastle
Everton
Fulham
QPR

(Red are the away games)

The run in (last five games) could be important if we are there or there abouts, especially the derby. Newcastle, Fulham and QPR could all be fighting for survival when we play them although i suspect the former to have gotten themselves clear by then.

Personally, I don't think we will be in it come the Southampton game. Can't see us beating Man City, Tottenham or Chelsea and we will struggle against Everton too.

Also, if we continue to not beaten a team from the top half there aren't many wins in there <yikes>

Obviously hope I am wrong <ok>

Swansea I can see hanging around but think West Brom will drop off a bit. We've still got both of them to play at home as well haven't we so I think our home form may well be the key to where we finish come the end of the season. Grind out results away and smash teams at home <ale> Easy <laugh>

It's OK. As always, you are <laugh>

None of us know if we can/will get 4th. But, (how grammatically incorrect!) one thing I do know is that if we don't attack it as our prime target for this season we will not see the improvements in the teams play/results that we all want.

Its the Away form that needs to be improved. This season the Home form is good enough to challenge for 4th even without beating a top team (so far)

Take the Mancs out the equation as they are clearly better than the rest and you have:

Home, very little in it.
Pld W D L F A Pts +/-
Everton 12 6 5 1 19 13 23 6
Chelsea 12 6 4 2 26 11 22 15
Spurs 12 6 4 2 18 12 22 6
Arsenal 12 6 3 3 32 18 21 14
Liverpool 12 6 3 3 22 10 21 12

Away. Pool are bottom with a poorer GD.
Pl W D L F A Pts +/-
Chelsea 12 7 3 2 23 13 24 10
Spurs 12 6 2 4 23 17 20 6
Everton 12 4 6 2 18 14 18 4
Arsenal 12 4 5 3 16 11 17 5
Liverpool 12 3 5 4 20 20 14 0

Now, bearing in mind, the Home performances against City and Utd, its perfectly reasonable to expect something from the Home games against Chelsea, Spurs and Everton.
As for the away record, it must improve for the team to progress up the league, but after Sunday there are no Away games against the Top6 left. Hopefully they can garner more points from the remaining away games.

Overall, 4th is a slim hope (8/1 with most bookies) but not impossible and given the remaining games after Sunday, hopefully the team can climb one or two places and build momentum towards the end of the season unlike last year.

It was agonizing to see us blow a 2 goal lead in 5mins! I think BR should have brought Skertel in after the 2nd, even Fungus brought Jones in after a goal lead against us, this was by all means a must win. I'm sure Arsenal will drop more points though, they look terrible this season, but the game against Tottenham is obviously crucial, and can only hope they drop more points. 4th should be the target till it's mathematically impossible. It would be terrible to go another season without CL football.

And i think our defence with Carra or not, lacks the determination and steel to hold off a lead in crucial games. They start ****ting their pants the moment we go ahead, We need a calm presence in defence and should be a priority in summer

4th isn't impossible but I think if we hang on to 7th it will be an achievement.

We started rough and to be where we are now after our first handful of results is pretty good.

I'm casting a wide net and saying we will end somewhere between 4th and 10th.

5-7th for me, just too inconsistent and can't see that changing at the moment.

The other thing is that, apart from Arsenal, those around us in the running for fourth have got to come to Anfield yet and I presume (haven't checked others fixtures) have to play each other in the last few months of the season.

I still think 4th won't happen and others around us are stronger but as Saint said what we need to do for the rest of the year is improve the balance within the system, get some consistency, beat some of the teams around us and get things right behind the scenes so that everyone at the club is working towards the same thing.

Why not? We have to get used to not being as good as were, to rebuild you have to start again which is what we're having to do

I dont agree with that sort of comment. There are only Utd and City with any consistancey at the minute and at as the 'lower' teams scouting networks improve they can pick up excellent players for a bargain, Michu springs to mind

In the past it was only top teams and everyone else got the pick of what was left but everything is closer now
