I don't understand this talk, which merely reflects wums, about us being a failing mid-table team who should come to terms with their new found position. For me we are still a great club who have failed, so far, the best way to restore their fortunes. There is a great difference between the 2 outlooks. So, we should look down at the smaller clubs and get mad at ourselves when we drop points to them. We should not expect to rely upon 'finding gems' in the lower leagues. We should however, continue to invest in our youth development AND improve our results so that the so called better players want to come to our club. For the second part of that to happen we must ensure Europa entry and strive for CL. So the season is never over 'till the fat lady sings - unless we give up and let it be over!
Agreed we "should" are fsg of the same mind? are the clubs structures and quality of coaches right, are players arriving into the youth academy still.. If you go for the right guy as suarez proves you can get results. much pilloried glen johnson is a most key player and delivers every week, if you pay and don't take mad risks like we had done you will get good quality players. look at last night... santos came on and is a classic last minute buy. disaster zone. I think we bought sturridge well and if it took 6 months so what? the fact that there was NO option is a historic one and now there are 3 (sort of) options up top. If we retin having the thrre options we have the luxury of waiting for the right guy. Had we a real striker reserve/option when torres left would we have lashed 35mil at carroll or would we have said hang on these geordies are taking us for a ride and elts just wait til may? anyway... a seaosn's never over once there is matches to enjoy.
Apart from the following Foredeckdave, luvgonzo, Page_Moss_Kopite and the artist known as Billy El Pistolero who can't appreciate pure talent. It seems the consensus is that we can still move up the league.
Dominate Arsenal for an hour and city for pretty much the whole game, but even further behind the Europa places. Season even more over.
Not at all, 9 points off fourth and now we have our hardest away games done with the catch up well and truly begins now. We need to go on a run of games, but we look better and better with each passing game, with Coutinho still to come in and almost a fully fit squad it's not over yet. It's extremely unlikely, but why write it off so early, let's atleast have a good crack at it.
I just voted 'Jaffa should stick to terrible match day threads'. At least he is better at it than me.
Terrible weekend for us. Tottenham, Chavs and Arsenal have already won. Swansea have gone above us too. No Europe at all next season is poor.
