That hit's the nail on the head.

We should treat all cups seriously; not to is a delusion of self-importance as we do not have a capable 2nd string to see us through the 'riff-raff' (hmm) and to accept poor performances in our shirts is wrong on all levels. It's crass to protect the so-called 1st team in this manner.

What I dont get is why we talk like it is important and then create a make shift team and send them out. If we dont care why not just send out our actual reserve team. I would think it would be a great experience for them to go out and play on tv or in front of 10,000 people. Wouldnt the likes of Dixon, Clark etc benefit from it? Also if we were upfront about who we were sending and what we wanted out of it wouldnt the fans respect that a lot more?

The cups seem to be irrelevant, when we do get a big team we still screw it up. I seem to recall getting thrashed by QPR in the old Milk Cup, hammered by Chelsea, in fact the only times I recall getting excited about a cup tie was when we played Liverpool & were 2-1 up at half time & that game against Arsenal in the 1/4 finals when PB lost the plot after the game. There was a season we played Wigan & should have battered them, we lost 3-0. That was5th round too.
Big team or small team we never do well in the cups anymore. :steam:

Spot on. As for not finishing in top 6, put down the crack pipe, lie down and lighten up.

I think the thing that annoys me most is that its a game of professional football but isn't treated as such by our team of professional footballers, regardless of the context of the match. We should play our strongest team to win the game, not the Cup.

However, I think the real reason for all the panicking is because aside from a couple of changes, that's a team of players in the first team picture and they couldn't beat Barnsley; easily the worst team at the KC this year. I mean if we play like that against teams like Barnsley, Peterborough and Sheffield Wednesday, how the **** do people suddenly think we will be able to beat teams like Watford, Boro or Cardiff? This isn't kneejerk to Saturday, we have yet to play anything like the league position we were in since Leeds. Its a situation that needs rectifying pretty ****ing quick, or its going to cost us.

Not necessarily. It would have been a different draw, chaos theory and so on.

Apart from being able to get a new ground done Nothing whatsoever has been lost by losing to Barnsley.

The FAC was starting to get in the way of whats important. Let Middlesboro and Lesta toil in the Cup for a while longer and let them get a fixture pile up.

Orient - Barnsley and a missed chance @ MKD ? what a shameful FAC draw. No money in that whatsoever.

What he means is, that if we had beaten Barnsley, and then a butterfly in the African rainforest flapped it's wings, which in turn caused a hurricane in America that may result in the balls coming out in a different order so we may not have got MK Dons.

    I think that's it anyway

The same draw would have been made, just the ball that was drawn would have a different number on it.

Thank you for your kind words, babe <hug>

No, the number would have been the same but there's a good chance the draw might have been different. That's my point.

All it would take for the balls to be tipped into the container slightly differently, say from the other side of the bag, the balls being spun round the container in the opposite direction or whoever picked them out to be a fraction later in grasping the ball, missing the one with City's number on, all these little things can mean the draw could have been totally different. However, we shall never know.

Highest home attendance ever: 55019 vs Man U, FA Cup
Highest home attendance in the 1950s: 50040 vs Rotherham, FA Cup
Highest home attendance in the 1960s: 45328 vs Chelsea, FA Cup
Highest home attendance in the 1970s: 41452 vs Stoke, FA Cup
Highest home attendance in the 1980s: 20058 vs Liverpool, FA Cup

this doesn't suggest crowds not turning up.

I agree that this no longer the case.
