Gaston Ramirez is a bigger name in world football than that mush.

Anyway, it's not the Southampton way to be so negative. We could have signed him if we wanted to and if negative fans like you weren't holding us back.

I would say Ramirez is the better player, but he was at a team of similar standing to us and wanted a move, whereas Coutinho was at a much bigger club and less likely to want to take a step down, particularly with a club like Liverpool interested in him.

I think if it was just us, unchallenged by other teams and we were persistent we might have been able to snare him, but with Liverpool in for him he was never going to come to us.

Is anyone concerned that Coutinho has flatly refused to sign for Saints, despite MP managing him in the past. I don't know what the reasons were, could be higher salary, better history, but certainly isn't because Liverpool have offered more.

I would be looking for some obscure signings, MP has a history of buying cheap and then having to sell- in the 3 years with Espanyol all the players that he bought were resold for minimum twice thier original fee, so looks like he has a good eye
