Ive stuck with Wenger for all these years, but if he fails to bring in a solid signing this window (read: worth at least £6-7 mil) and we fail to reach the top 4, I am finally going to join all the Wenger out gooners.

I also foresee the next manager spending big should Wenger eventually get the axe.

    My thoughts exactly.

I think we need players regardless, but if Wenger fails to buy and THEN fails to meet his own ambition (4th place), he would have demonstrated an inability to do his job.

I can criticise his low ambition, but if he can't even reach his target because he is too stubborn to do what everyone else is saying he needs to do, he has to go.

To be honest I don't want Wenger to add just for the sake of it.

We need additions that are better than what we already have.

David Villa, Jovetic, Llorente.. That's the calibre of player we should be looking at.

Saying that though Wenger does'nt seem interested in strengthening. It seems he's more interested in fighting for that fourth place 'trophy' again with the squad we have.

Teams have bought well. Particularly Newcastle.

There was alot of quality available for decent prices this window, despite what our Manger might say.

    (Llorente for £3 Million!! ..yikes.)

Again I'm going to have to moan at his contradiction...

Three weeks ago.. It was "we are working hard to bring players in"

Two weeks ago ..“We have not looked at anyone. First of all we want to sort out the injuries we have, and we are trying very hard to close the deal with Walcott. “Once we have done that, we will certainly do something else.”

Then we have.."We are in the market, but only if we find players who will really strengthen us because we have a good squad. But if we find an exceptional player then we will take him"

    and today it's..

"We have two players in every position, that should be enough, plus the young players in behind".

What annoys me is it seems we cant trust a word he says anymore.

I don't think anyone is saying he should add for the hell of it, but if he doesn't add and fails to get 4th (his ambition not mine), he would have completely failed as a manager. Right now, it looks 50/50 as to whether we get 4th. There are (and were) many players that could have helped us secure 4th. Llorente went to Juventus, M'Vila to Rubin... even Newcastle picked up Sissoko and Mbiwa. He's had opportunities to strengthen the team that he has shunned. If we fail to get 4th after failing to buy anyone, it WILL be his fault, no question. Six days remain.

Llorente wouldn't be a wise long or mid term option, he's too similar to Giroud and in worse form.

He's a less physical, lazier Giroud with slightly better technique basically.

Isn't having Wilshere back a bit like a new signing?

You have good players, they just need form and confidence.

Maybe a midfield hard-man... but everyone's said that for years.

I kinda agree, although I would say he's ALOT more capable on the ball. Giroud is a decent target man but he's very poor at taking on defenders with the ball at his feet. (Certainly at this level anyway)

If there are no signings, one of two things will happen:

    1. We finish in the top 4; Wenger's policy is vindicated; we don't get any investment in the team for years.
    2. We finish outside the top 4; Wenger will probably be fired for not strengthening the team when he had the chance; we become a Europa League side and completely fall away as a force in English football.

    I'm not liking either possibility.

    Some people are.

I dont think M'biwa for example would give us anything we dont already have in Vermaelen and Koscieleney.
If we are going to add a CB they have to be TOP class - otherwise its pointless. Matt Hummels, Neven Subotic, Chiellini - That level of quality.

I feel the same way about a striker. David Villa or Jovetic would give us something different and take us up a notch.

This level of player is rarely available 'on the cheap' though.

But I do agree if we dont strengthen and fail to qualify for the Champions League then this year its ALL ON WENGER. We know he has the funds and we've seen there are quality players available.

Agreed, but when 2 of our 3 central defenders get injured at the same time, which they probably will, what then? Squillaci? Coquelin at CB? Promote youth players who aren't ready?

Agreed. We'd need someone better than Giroud. Ba would have been good enough though...

    Ba was.

    Yep.

I agree with this up until the last sentence. Surely if we don't add any players because they wouldn't add any overall quality to the squad, then it's up to the players who are already in the squad who have the better quality to ensure that we get into the top four.

Our current league position and performances this season would suggest they arn't good enough though..

Thus far . . I would agree. But the point is that if we're not adding any quality to the squad, then what's the point ?

I want to see us sign a couple of players, but I've said all along I don't want to see us sign inferior quality players simply to appease the fans now, when those same fans may well be calling them deadwood in six months.

The point is some quality players that would improve the team have already gone.

Others are needed to give us some depth so we aren't relying on Coquelin, Squillaci, Santos, or an injured Diaby any more.

We also let Chamakh and Djourou go on loan, so even though those players are crap, we're now under-stocked for backups.

Saying "Thus far I agree" isn't really going to cut it because if we get to March and Wenger realises his squad isn't good enough to get 4th, there's **** all that can be done about it. The probability of not getting 4th is higher than ever, and the next 6 days could make or break this season.

Also, he's had long enough to know his players aren't good enough, so it's not the player's fault if they never were.

We need a good strong physical DM and have done for some time and they were/are not that hard to find, they dont have to be brillant technical players either, also we have little or no strength in depth when we are in tight games we don't have any game changers on the bench so from that point of view there are better players out there than what we have,an example of our lack of depth being that Diaby had to be thrown in at the deep end coming back from a long injury lay off.

I was picking up on the point that bear was making about the level of quality that we would be able bring in, but essentially I agree with what you're saying. The 'Thus far' comment though stands, as we've seen that this team can control and win games. I think it's more about how we approach our games than anything else, but I would also like to see some depth added to this squad.

you cant believe a word that comes out of his mouth .

    Its ALL spin .

Smoke and mirrors to try to appease the fans who are complaining.

But even the patience of die hards is wearing a bit thin . <whistle><whistle>

We THRASHED West Ham , so now everything is hunky dory it seems.
