Just how much is bruce going to get in the summer? Sunderland manager Steve Bruce insists he will not be demanding megabucks from the club's owner to improve his squad for next season. Bruce has invested heavily in his squad during his two years at the Stadium of Light, but has seen injuries disrupt his plans in the second half of this term. The Black Cats will continue their limp towards the Premier League finishing line against relegation-threatened Wolves on Saturday with injuries still decimating the squad and underlining the need for reinforcements. The club face starting next season without the likes of Craig Gordon, Michael Turner, David Meyler and Fraizer Campbell, and John Mensah, Nedum Onuoha and Danny Welbeck are still to learn whether or not their loan deals will develop into anything more permanent. Unfair And Bruce said: "It would be unfair of me to go to the owner and say, 'Right, I need nine players and I need another ã100million'. It's not as easy as that. "We have got to look at the situation very, very carefully and closely and to be fair, that's what you are paid your money for. "It's difficult, but we will have to try to find a solution." Meanwhile, Bruce has praised young midfielder Jack Colback for grasping his opportunity in the absence of more experienced figures in recent weeks. He added: "In adversity, there is always something that comes and catches your eye, and certainly Jack is the shining example of that. "He has proved to me that he can be part of the squad, he can play in the Premier League, and he has got a big part to play for us, so fair play to him." .
Think this is for other clubs who know we need players, know we have the Bent cash and who will try and inflate fees. We need at least two strikers but more like 3. We need a right back and midfielders just to stand still. Bruce may not need 100 mil but he does need a fair few mil
The problem is as well he needs players who can fit straight in and are raring to go, so no more cheap south americans, if we had a relative injury free season we would have a very good squad. (and we have riveros/angelari who may come back raring to go, they may not as well mind lol) I have a feeling he may have to dip into the Championship for a few, even look at the likes of sampdoria if they go down (which is looking likely), we may get 1 or 2 if we are lucky 10mil + buys, the rest will be 1-5 million i would imagine, but he will probably have to sell as well, maybe not to recoup all of the spending, but to recoup a bit of it.
Hopefully we will get a fair chunk to spend on strikers, after all we bagged 24 million or even more for Bent
Would still like a left back. Bardo good BUT not a left back, nor is ricco. We do need players inc forwards & midfielders but its possible once we get our walking wounded fit we may end up selling players next summer. Lets trust brucie to get them in and not have a major slump next season.
Whatever he gets he'll have to spend it wisely and cautiously and not pay over the odds for who we need....I can see a few free agents coming our way as we won't have to outlay as much for them, just satisfy their wage demands.
This is basically Bruce knowing that he would probably get sacked if he dared approach Short for a significant sum of cash after the last few seasons.
Klose the 32 year old German international is available on a free transfer. We have been linked with him but would demand 100,000 a week wages.
so they should, there's a lot of things to be looking at, but bruce won't go, end of the day, he knows what he has to do for next season, remains to be seen if he get enough money to do it..
My gut feeling is i think he will be sacked. He was backed and spent big.Short wont stand for this IMO. And to TBH if you owned the club would you.
For me was the Derby fiasco at the piggery, then to be fair we were lucky to get the draw at the SOL against them. Then Bruce going to sing the song. Not good enough IMO.
he had to sell keanes buys to spend most of it though, keanes buys were bought by drumaville, yes short had to buy the club and has spent on wages (but then whats the TV/merchandise/gate receipts for) and we have a wage cap which probably isnt much more than when keane was in charge (it may even be less as far as i know). All bruce does is give a list of names to Quinn and Short if they say no (which sounds like they did for a striker in jan) then its tough **** bruce, or if they say you have to sell to buy, then he has to sell (which he has had to do for the most part).
