"Talks are ongoing"?

With the DJ Campbell signing still up in the air and negotiations ongoing according to the HDM, it got me wondering, why do these "talks" take so long? Surely it would be a simple 5 minute chat along the lines of "We'll offer you £x for Campbell" "A little more" "Ok, £x+a" Deal agreed?

Anyone care to explain?
 
most deals until the final stages are faxed between agent and chairman/negotiator, many offers are left for players, and clubs to sweat on, and buckle under the pressure of other clubs getting involved, its a real game of cat and mouse that can take ages to get around the table

Yeah, but I think it falls more on the player. It's a big upheaval to move your family to a brand new area so I guess there's all that. But it does seem like our negotiations take longer than other clubs.

Have you got a source on that other than Twitter (which seems to be more of an idle gossip shop for the incurably ill-informed)?

Not twitter. The local media down palace way and the national media are reporting it. Ian Holloway also has said as much. The latest was that DJ will get paid £23k a week by Hull City but we have to agree a fee with DQPR. Steve Agnew told Burnsy tonight that talks are on going and Steve Bruce is very busy on the phone.

We shall just have to wait and see. No rush for this week but if this is going to happen then i think it will be next week.
 
Just throwing some notions into the mix (not sure if the first is within or against rules) - could some of the delay be down to agent sounding out other clubs where he might get a higher wage (and the agent gets more of a cut). then there is children issue - is there a school in the area which the parents would like to send their darling little sproglet to, and will the school have a place for said sproglet. plus we've got the selling the area/look at the kind of house your wages get up here in ull (which compared to where he is probably living at the moment - would be a positive selling point size wise), wages, agent's cut, whether the "missus" likes the shops (sorry to be sexiest) issues.

Sorry, I've been reading all that lot too and there's no mention that DJC has agreed terms with us. I don't want to argue about it though, just attach a link.

I know what he's saying Tickler. You do have a habit of choosing the best case scenarios and then finding ways to justify them.
 
So it's a slow news day & HDM is lost for something to fill a spot on the back page so decided to be dramatic with some crap that's a non story as has been all week.
 
Its also that as clubs buy players late in the window that they suddenly make players available too, the merry go round that is the transfer window.

all things being equal say league positions and financial package , a London club will edge out our club , but i dont see why as its as easy to live near Howden for EG. and be within 30mins of Leeds , Hull and plenty of small towns with character.
Id like to think the area is a better place to live than some gated community or sloane square bedsit on fancy London.

Having lived in Crouch End, Finsbury Park, Woodgreen, Wembley, Tooting and Clapham, I can confirm that it's better to live within the parliamentary seat of Howden and Haltemprice(though I did quite like Crouch End and Clapham).
