Really? Arsenal have had their worst start to a season in a long time, and have been unconvincing for a couple of months. Wenger says the squad is complete - perhaps numbers wise but certainly not quality wise. This is a Club that says it can challenge for the Title, yet is even further away this year than last & is doing nothing to address it.
We've lost RVP and Song from last season. We've gained Giroud,Cazorla & Podolski also Wilshere was absent last season
Last season, the squad was average and this season it's average. If we do not strengthen, then I can't see us finishing in the top four.
I still think there's more to come from the group of players we have got. But I do agree that we need to strengthen in a couple of key areas.
Wenger said the squad was "complete." Arsenal are currently closer to relegation than they are to the title.
It's a fact PISKIE. 4th isn't what I want. I want a team that challenges. We've watched Spurs grow gradually closer to Arsenal over the last few seasons with a smaller fanbase, smaller stadium, lower marketability, but a better chairman & decent managers. Now for Arsenal, even a Top4 spot is seriously under threat, and Wenger says the squad is "complete," after the worst start to a league campaign in a long time. That worries me, and it should worry you too.
We can all want more than 4th, but at the moment that is a realistic target. You could also argue that the rest of the league has improved too. Spurs were 2pts from the bottom of the league before Arry came in, so it's not really that staggering that they've improved from then. I think we need additions, but I'm not buying into the alarmist relegation nonsense.
I just had a cold chill thinking of this Arsenal team in a full blown relegation scrap with the likes of Gervinho I need a Jamesons ice no water !!
Harry Redknapp a 'decent manager'? Do me a favour....they got 4th in spite of him last year, not because. This current one may have something to offer though....
Make it a double We're technically closer to the bottom three than we are to First place by two points, if we win our game in hand we'll be closer to winning the league than being relegated. Neither are going to happen though . .
I realise Arsenal aren't in danger of relegation. But nor are they in any danger at all of challenging. Yet the Manager is completely satisfied with this. That is what is worrying. Redknapp took a reasonable team and made the decent. Villas-Boas is kicking on from there. I rate him as a manager and think he'll do well. Arsenal on the other hand, don't seem to be progressing at all.
Yes sadly I agree with this. Wenger is perfectly happy running the club this way. It's not really suprising the guy is a Economist. He gets to practise his two loves management and socialism. I feel bad attacking Wenger because the guy is a legend but MOST fans seem unwilling to admit the guy is at least partly responsible for our decline.
Mate I agree that we're not challenging and that ideally we should be pushing for higher, but I don't agree that Wenger is satisfied with this at all. In fact I think he would say the exact opposite. We've all got a wish list that we think would make us title challengers again, but the reality is that he is working within the context of what's going on around him. At the moment 4th is a realistic target, whether we think it's acceptable for our club or not.
From our squad the following are the only players that I can trust and rate to do a job for us and be good enough to get us into the top four. Szczesny Sagna Jenkinson Mertesacker Koscielny Vermaelen Gibbs Arteta Cazorla Wilshere Walcott Giroud Podolski Chamberlain That's 14 players, I excluded Diaby and Rosicky because I can't trust them to stay fit. Ramsey might be OK from the bench but I ain't convinced by him one bit from the start. Can these 14 players see us through the entire season and get us into the top four? I doubt it, there will be injuries, so we need to INVEST in two or three more players who can strengthen our squad and maybe even give us a decent chance to have a go at the FA Cup.
I will judge him come the 1st of February. This team may scrape 4th, but it won't get it comfortably without reinforcements. Gazidis says there's money available, and I believe him. There's no reason not to. Stadium debt is down, new sponsorship deals are in place, a huge increase in TV money is coming in in the summer guaranteed, Champions League money is coming in. Players have left freeing up wages. Wenger says he's looking for players. Chelsea managed to find one, Liverpool managed to find one, Arsenal don't seem to be able to find any. The only reason I can see for that, is Wenger as he's in charge of player recruitment.
