View attachment 20429 vs Charlton's oppenents this weekend at the Valley come in the form of Blackpool who pretty soon could be managerless with Michael Appleton looking Blackburn bound after opening talks today. well there really is no loyalty in football these days, he's only been at Blackpool a matter of weeks! Anyway last week we went down 1-0 to Huddersfield but this was in the Fa Cup and should not have any affect on our league form in my opinion. Blackpool were also in Fa cup action and drew 1-1 away to Fulham. These days I feel more confident about us playing away from home but I still think we can win this game Blackpool are in a bad run and have not won in 5 and I reckon they will be unsettled with the news that yet another manager may be leaving them.
Nice as always Would love to see Bover play, I've always been excited by the lad and would love him to come out with the potential I believe he has, also I've heard he's a RM but can play on either wing, if so and he's good we have a gem there
I cannot think of any reason why CP would not play Wilson at RM. He has been one of our few successes lately. Probably at Kerkar's expense with Jackson at LM. Wiggins is not ready to appear on the bench. I expect Fox to get picked for that job. And Button is now our no.2 keeper. CP praised him after the Huddersfield fiasco. Finally, we will need a CB on the bench. Cort if fit (or he could start). Osborne if not.
Same side except fuller for BWP and Wilson for kerkar (JJ on left with Wilson on the right). Fuller deserves to retain his place after watford where he bullied their defenders and really showed his premier league class. I'm not convinced he and Yann are the right partnership, but it worked that day so they deserve another go together. Prediction- they are draw specialists under MA, though its not certain he will be their manager come Saturday. Despite the fact they have underachieved this season they still have quality in their squad and have continued IH's attractive, attacking style. My head say 2-2, my heart says 2-1 to blackpool.
For the first time in several months I'm going along thinking that we might win. I'm regarding Watford as our "last" game by pretending that last weeks irrelevance didn't happen and Blackpool are in turmoil. Hope to see Ince the younger in the flesh although he may be mothballed or sold by tomorrow. Wilson and Fuller in, otherwise the same team as Belv. Not a clue about defenders on the bench. I guess Fox and one of the young CHs
After last weekend, sounds like a sensible prediction to me. I'd like to see wilson back in, and if Dervite is suspended after his red card last week, that's fine by me.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2260434/Phil-Parkinson-wanted-Blackpool.html this could be weird if he did
Oops - should have read your post first SIG - just stuck this on the Transfer thread. My feeling is that he'll decline this if it's offered.
Yeah, I hope things work out for Parky. he never cost us a tenth of what the previous manager did. No offence to the Magpies but I enjoyed the Brighton game, and almost as much enjoyed their previous results. I hope Parky stays at Bradford as he seems settled and Wembley is in his sights, but maybe he'll get pretentions above his station above his station and move to Blackpool.
I agree with all this but I didn't suggest that he would start because I assumed he wouldn't be fit enough. Bench at best.
I think the team more or less picks itself, it will be the same team SuperC picked. What will be interesting is who is on the bench? Kerkar has been getting worse with every game and The Doctor has the choice of him, Harriott, Green and Waggy as wide players. And who will be cover at CB? Osborne I hope- I had high hopes for him before he broke his leg last season, and will he put a young CM player like Jordan on the bench or rely on JJ to move there if needed? Will the striker be BWP or Azeez?
Strange. Can anyone understand what Blackpool's medium to long term goals are? I can't really understand them. They win promotion, don't spend very much in the Premier League (won praise for thinking about the long term), kept the team together for another go at the playoffs then seem to have been happy enough (the club, not necessarily the fans) to let Holloway go. They then hired Appleton, who is a strange choice cos he didn't seem that successful (even given the limitations) at Pompey, and followed it up by signing a load of players they couldn't afford again at the start of this season. The money Blackpool got and continue to get from the Premier League went on a new stadium, but they don't seem very interested in filling that stadium. Appleton wasn't a hugely ambitious choice. Parkinson would be even less so, though the cup run will bring up his stock. It seems like Blackpool's sole motivation is reducing costs. Not promotion, not profit maximisation or anything like that, just lower costs, whatever the revenue/results. Seems strange. I'm also not sure what exactly Blackburn are trying to do. It's neither 'gamble or bust' nor 'consolidation'. None of that is to attack Parkinson. Wherever he goes, be it Wembley, Blackpool, Chelsea or wherever, best of luck to him. EDIT - BBC reporting that Parkinson turned down the opportunity to speak to Blackpool after official approach made on Thursday. Anyway, Appleton is confirmed as Blackburn manager, so that leaves Blackpool with a temporary manager. And Swansea and Liverpool sniffing around Tom Ince. A good chance to secure the first Saturday home win of the season, but I reckon it'll be a draw.
Mystic Tewkes' Crystal Ball sees all... He has a chance to write himself into legend at Bradford and I think that would be a greater incentive than even a two division jump, with the commensurate rise in salary. Have to say, I think Appleton needs his head tested, but who'd have the bottle to stick the electrodes on? It seems manifest that the chicken men know stuff all about football and the only reason I can see for him taking the job is to secure his short to medium term financial future, and good luck to him. Don't think a long term future is possible with such a bunch of k*******s in charge...
I know it's cool to talk about Blackburn and the Venkies, but Blackpool look a mess. That's two managers who've left in 2 months, both after rumours of rifts with the board, and neither of them have moved on to a bigger/better/better financed club. After my last post, I had a look on the Blackpool forum and they seem to be very very angry at the chairman. There was a story in the papers that he paid himself £11m when they got relegated from the Premier League. If they hadn't renovated the ground, it would look somewhat like when York City's chairman tried to sell the ground for development and close the club. Can't believe I'm writing that after the last 5 years they've had, but it looks very dodgy.
