Sorry Fosse - lots of wrong presumptions going on by the youngsters Just been listening to Lions Live where our FOTB Pete Garston was a guest - good lad is Pete (just getting over cancer but still committed for the fans) He said that upto 24th December millwall & Leicester were in a bidding war - WBA had agreed the fee & it was down to wages - we had to raise our offer 3 times and Leicester bettered it each time - after a week of tooing and froing, 2 other clubs came to the table with similar offers and we bowed out - Pearson got his man and well done to him for it - apparently 1 of the other interested parties was a Prem club - Wood will no doubt get better and better and become a very good player and at 21 has many years ahead of him - not too fussed about how much you are paying him tbh, but it was certainly a lot more than what we could afford
Plus, there are still 20 games to go, quality will shine through in the end and the difference will be greater than 4 points Does that spend figure you quoted include our purchase of Chris Wood, who greatly contributed to your points tally so far?
this was the most ridiculous quote: Originally Posted by leicester_ed On here i normally post well-balanced sensible views, but you have come over and just been totally ridiculous talking about things you dont understand. You then complained about our wage structure despite the fact we have shipped out Danns, Beckford, Mills etc and NP also tried to replace Konch if i remember right but was unable to and instead have bought in young improving players whos values have done nothing but increased. You then claimed we 'havent even won anything' which we clearly have, as my post said. I may come across as a prick, yes, but at least its a prick on my own board who actually knows what he is talking about. You may have shipped them out Ed, but you then replaced them with James, Vardy, De Laet, Futacs, Whitbread, Knockaert, and now Wood - you are spending much much more than your attendances would allow if the FFP rules were in place already - Apparently we shouldnt have replaced the high earners we shipped out with lower earners, and just had a squad so small that we couldnt field a team each match
We have only just surpassed the spending of Millwall this season when we bought Wood. They would have spend over three times as much as us if they'd signed him. Statistics are there to be tailored to suit arguments.
Ed - how do you know these are low earners? I know for a fact the wages that Whitbread turned down to join Leicester
Pearson bought in players that weren't established names, whereas Sven bought in players who had mostly played in the Prem. I'd suggest that Nugent and Kasper are still the highest earners at the club (discounting Beckford and Danns whose wages are at least partially being paid by Huddersfield). You only have to look at that table you enjoy posting so much to see Pearson is far more sensible when it comes to spending than Sven was. We also know he hasn't signed some targets because of wage demands.
To be honest LG, Sven needed shooting for only finishing 9th after spending all that money - but your owners have to take some of the blame. I'm sure NP has reduced the wages, but a club in debt to the tune of £45M had to at some point - I'm glad we did not win the bidding war for Wood as the rest of our squad would have been in uproar - would rather Leicester went up than Cardiff or Palace so good luck
****tu is on £60k a week. Well he's not, but how do you know, prove it to us that he is not or we will sit here and demand that he is. Obviously we dont know how much their on, as you dont with your players, but we know NP said he was shipping out the high earners and bringing back a more sustainable wage structure. They clearly arent on huge wages as one of the main reasons we shipped out the others was to replace them with people on sensible wages
I think our owners made a statement of intent by bringing in Sven. They allowed him to spend what he wanted but he had to get us promoted. He wasted the money, failed to get us promoted and he lost his job. Our owners have learnt very quickly that a bit of knowledge is worth more than a truck full of cash, and brought back a man who knew our club and nearly got us promoted with little funding. Pearson is doing the same again, but with money to spend this time. He's had a horrible mess to sort and he's done a fantastic job. Anyway good luck for the rest of the season, I always root for the underdog and would like to see you finish above clubs such as Blackburn, Bolton and Forest.
