From the reports I read he played well against West Brom as well as scoring. He played quite well in the few PL games he played for us this season. And if it goes as with others like DJ and HH, soon as we let him go he'll stay fit and do well.

This is no time for sentiment. Where was he when Hughes was around? Where would he be when we most need him?
One of Hughes' most insane decisions to offer a new contract. In with the new younger and fitter!

    The Great Escape is on!!

Championship/Premiership - We're on the up and we'll be getting players who are worth a toss!

Can you tell me that Nelsen or Dyer were any part of our future?

Don't think hughes was to blame for that one, extension was in his contract if I remember.

No one knows, but such was his utter incompetency that it is far more likelier that Hughes extended it. One thing is for sure, Harry at the first opportunity has done the right thing.

Who else have we offloaded? Nelson doesn't count as we're not offloading him as such plus he's still here anyway. We have brought in (or had loanees returned) Haim, Campbell and Bothroyd. I'm not saying they are the answer to our prayers but for the upcoming Tottenham game we have enough players to cover each position. Dyer was hardly holding down that position anyway leaving a void. I feel in my water we will get one player in before Saturday...who and what position I have no idea.

Finally, never understood why Mark Hughes gave him a new contract!

Warnock brought him in, Hughes persevered with him and now Harry has triggered a clause in his contract to release him - perhaps a case of either letting him go, or an extension. If Dyer was not in Harry's long-term plans for the squad of 25 for the remainder of the season, this is the right decision.

Will be interesting to see where DJ, Ephraim, Bothroyd, Hulse and Luke Young figure in that mix. These players have this month to impress and possibly be included in the 25, be sold or go back out on loan at month's end. After the Spurs game the WBA cup game offers a good opportunity for Harry to experiment with the team. Green should get a run out there too.

Yep, something not quite right here. HR must have seen all he needed to of Bothroyd on Saturday and Hulse is legendary as a footballing statue. If either of them ever start another PL game for the club my respect for our new manager will evaporate very quickly. We must assume he has some magic up his sleeve...

He's looked decent at times, but this is still a very sensible decision.
We're a relegation threatened club with an 18k seater stadium, we can't support the large wages of someone who's unlikely to play very often.
Perhaps there was a desire to support him through his injury- and now he's got form/fitness back it's seen as fair to offload him.

I have a question. If the Club could activate a release clause now, doesn't that mean that Hughes could have let him go in the Summer?

A number of people at the time said that he was forced to sign him up because Paladini had him tied into a deal?

Maybe it was in his clause that if he scores he can be released.....the goal was an accident !!

If what we were told is anything to go by Warnock brought Dyer in on a pay as you play deal.

Then for reasons best known to himself (probably Dyer's influence on the training ground where he was said to be first in and last out), Hughes contracted Dyer in one of his earliest actions last summer.

Unlike most others, there was obviously a get out early clause in Dyer's contract, which meant he was low hanging fruit when it comes to available shirts in the new 25 man squad.

Strange that Harry picked him last Saturday. I thought by most accounts he had a good game. If Harry's mind was made up already, why did he play him against WBA.

Perhaps by playing that game, and scoring, no harm will have been done if he wants to play for another team; it showed that he left us fit and played well. Some other club may well take a punt on him after seeing that. Who knows, but good luck to him.
