Just seen a tweet that Butland is at Staplewood having a medical...

I can't see this being true (and trust me I'd love to believe this one as I think he is a future England number one!) as last I heard Saints did our medicals at Solent University?

I met Adkins outside the Uni in Summer 2011 whilst a player was having a medical and had a nice chat with the guy. Andy Crosby was even kind enough to take a photo!

Pretty sure the English players will call him Dave or Dav.

Italians tend to use diminutives anyway; Rino (Gennaro) Gattuso, Pippo (Filippo) Inzaghi or Beppe (Guiseppe) Signori spring to mind. Don't know what they would call a Davide, maybe Dado or Dino or something?

Got nothing. Likely to get an update again on Saturday after the game if there is one. All I know is last I heard, Contratto was in Four Seasons.

My fear is that these proposed transfers are going to drag on until deadline day as the clubs argue about the size of the transfer fee in the same way that the Ramirez deal did
Italian based players are technically good and reasonably priced compared with home grown but dealing with Italian businessmen isn't easy and there are always the "additional" costs that they need to grease the wheels
We need new recruits NOW not at the end of January as it may be too late by then to save ourselves now injuries are hitting our paper thin squad.

Let's not panic. We have four league games in January, including Man utd and Chelsea away and Everton at home. I'd have those away games as unlikely to get anything and Everton as really, tough, so no panic really. Villa is Saturday and anyone signing now won't play in that anyway, so end of January is fine by me. I'd be worried if we signed no good defenders this month, but "now" is not really the requirement.

That sounds like we've made a (final?) bid and Cagliari are stalling in case someone else will top it. Perhaps Napoli will.

I have to say I'm not really a fan of these games of financial chicken that Cortese seems to play. We're not a big enough club to just say take it or leave it, there are plenty of bigger clubs who can come in and steal players from under our noses so I'd prefer it if we focussed on getting these relatively big deals done quickly.

The thing that we have that Napoli doesn't have is the carrot of the Premier League. A lot of footballers want to play in the PL and not a bad way to be seen.
