Ok, I stand corrected, though you might understand why I interpreted it differently seeing as that in no way implies we are talking to any particular player right now.
 
Just asked our old pal Tancredi Palmeri about this, then since he has tweeted this:

He didn't say he came here purely because of money, he stated he our offer was the only concrete offer and the money was good. But you keep telling yourself that, I'm sure it will comfort you.

I like Ramirez just as much as you do. But he is here because of his wage. Be realisitc he had a pick of some of the top clubs in Europe and he joined us, a newly promoted, relegation candidate.
 
The deal should have been done and dusted in an hour max, what the **** is Cortese playing at? Adkins is clearly struggling to attract top players :( bring back Pardew

Pardew would have brought him in on Jan the 1st. Also he would have signed Michail Antonio on a permanent contract.

And you think Clyne, Davis, Rodriguez, Boruc etc are all here because they have deep love for the club?

I don't think Gaston had the pick as no one else actually got to the stage of having their bid accepted (something supported by the reports of Tancredi Palmeri, Daniele Labanti and Simon Peach at the time of the rumours).
