Have we still got him? Or has he gone back to Sunlan?

I know he was still with us, but suspended, most likely cos he couldn't play for the Black Cats (and we were still paying half his wages).

What's the position?

It's a tad confusing!

SUNDERLAND have delayed recalling David Meyler from his loan spell with Hull after the midfielder was hit with a suspension which would have ruled him out of the Black Cats’ game against Manchester City this afternoon.

Martin O’Neill originally intended to cut short Meyler’s loan at the weekend so he would be available for the three holiday fixtures against Man City, Spurs on Saturday and Liverpool next Wednesday.

However, the Republic of Ireland international picked up his fifth booking of the season – four of which have come in his last five outings – in the Tigers’ 2-1 win at Derby on Friday night.

That earned him an automatic one-game ban and meant he could not play on Boxing Day.

O’Neill will now recall the 23-year-old after today’s game, which means Meyler will be available to play against Spurs.

O’Neill said: “We were going to recall David for today’s game straight after Friday’s game but we have not done so as of this minute.

“Of course, he is banned now after picking up his fifth booking.

“Because of that, we decided to let him stay down at Hull for a few days longer.

“He is enjoying it there and has done very, very well so I do not see the need to recall him straight away if he is not going to be involved.

“I had planned to recall him for the three games at this stage.

“My only worry was the offices would be shut over the holidays and we would not be physically able to do the paperwork to recall him for the following game.

“However, I am assured the offices are open over the holidays to process things like that, which means he can have an extra few days in Hull before returning to us to be available for the game against Spurs.”

He was in the crowd at he KC on Saturday. If he was being recalled although suspended wouldn't he be back at Sunderland already just not officially.

They've held back leaving us to pay for part of his wages during his suspension.
Reckon he'll be recalled this afternoon.

Hope he's not.....

Stop looking for negative reasons and simply accept the fact that he enjoys it with us and has bonded well with the squad.

Let's hope we can get him back on loan next month with a view to a permanent. As far as I understood it, he was only staying with us to train whilst he served his one match suspension.

...and by all accounts Sunderland need to give 24hrs notice to recall Meyler, which they haven't done as yet (despite O'Neill saying that he would) and therefore he's definitely available for tomorrow.

Poor lad's head must be in biscuits.
