A debate spurf? surely not? <laugh>

I think the "how many people?" question which he asked constantly was slightly irrelevant. He didn't seem to get the bit about opposing players celebrating in front of opposing fans. He kept saying "so fans cant celebrate a goal?" - And then just spoke over them when they tried to make him understand what the question was. <doh>

And Rio was in front of city fans, hence why he got something thrown at him!

Disagree! <laugh> The point he was making was that Rio was on the pitch celebrating therefore the premise of the question was wrong in just the same way that you are wrong. <laugh> As Paddy said are you suggesting that people should not celebrate a win or a goal?

Badly framed question from people who had not even seen the match.

AND why are you supporting the BB ****ing C Roo?

I think I must have missed something massively in the 5 mins of that video, as I'm totally confused.

They asked what his thoughts were on players going over to the oppositions fans to celebrate a goal, as it winds up the fans.
He kept saying that there's nothing wrong with fans celebrating a goal. - But they were trying to explain that fans simply celebrating a goal wasn't the question they asked.
Then he started banging on about wanting numbers of people, but wouldn't let them explain that it wasn't what they'd asked, as he kept talking over them and asking for numbers of people who'd written in.
It came across as if he thought that the presenter had said "fans shouldn't celebrate goals", which he then made the comment about "what planet do these people live on?", which was bizarre and clearly showed he didn't understand the question.

I'm not saying players shouldn't celebrate a goal at all; it's about players going over to other fans and winding them up.

****ing love the BBC :emoticon-0115-inlov <laugh>

Are you deliberately missing the point Roo! They were making an issue about players celebrating at the opposition. Paddy did not accept that point and asked them how many and who were suggesting it. It doesn't matter whether it's fans or players it's about celebrating.

Did Rio run up to the oppo fans and celebrate? Or was he on the pitch celebrating? Two different things,

Power to Paddy, stuff the BBC, the Pravda of the Government.

Could somebody lighten my darkness because perhaps I've made a mistake. Don't those who finish third in the groups of the CL go to the EL?

Club World Cup's on the Beeb site and the red button on your tellybox. Only just tuned in but it seems like a decent game.

I take back what I said, this game is truly awful. Al-Ahly are terrible and Corinthians aren't much better.

Roo, I'm with you on this. Paddy having a paddy over nothing. The thick twat clearly didn't understand the question and decided to go in all guns blazing over a simple, reasonable question.

Spurf - they weren't making a point they were asking a question about whether Rio celebrated too near the home supporters. A reasonable question, to which the answer is yes or no. Not "how many people said that" and "I'll fight you over this ya wee bastard (ok maybe he didn't say that but he was close to it)" that's a strange response to the question and I understand Roo's post on this completely. It was an utterly bizarre reaction and sounded like he was half way down a bottle of whisky at the time.

And Boss is right, he would be superb at hosting his own show. If he's going to throw his toys out of the pram so easily it would be compulsive viewing/listening.

His point was that the people calling in saying Rio shouldn't have celebrated infront of the City fans weren't at the game as otherwise they wouldn't have said that. The presenters, who hadn't seen the game, were then proceeding to ask him questions as to whether he thought it was partly Rio's fault too(on the basis that he celebrated infront of City fans, which he didn't) and an even more stupid question about whether fans are worse behaved now than they were in the past. He didn't clarify himself too well but the presenters were no better and shouldn't have been talking about things they didn't know anything about. Let along comparing a couple of fans a week making a monkey gesture and the odd coin throwing incident and even rarer fan encroaching on the pitch incident to how things have been in the past with volleys of bananas and abuse directed at black players, fans turning up to fight and throw all sorts of **** at eachother diuring the game. I'm not excusing the incidents and these racist incidents are too common to dismiss but you can't ask whether fans are worst behaved now because it's a stupid question that everyone knows the answer to.

SD I don't find it bizarre at all. What I find bizarre are the inane questions asked by BBC reporters/presenters. What I find bizarre are the loaded veiwpoints that the BBC accepts as 'impartial'. Paddy says, so what are you saying people shouldn't celebrate goals/wins. He says this because he does not accept the premise of the question put by the presenter and challenges them on this. Good for Paddy if more people responded to stupid questions in this way we might, just might, get a higher standard from the BBC.

Paddy is also a Scot and therefore will have a much clearer view of how bias on the BBC manifests itself.

BBC tactic: Frame a question that deals with the issue you want to make something of. Too often that question is based on prejudice and dubious sources and all too often it is not challenged. You are always at risk of sounding shrill when challenging the status quo but it needs to be done as often as possible. Power to Paddy's elbow. <ok>

I don't agree with this interpretation at all, I'm afraid, Spurf.
I think he completely misunderstands the question and goes off on a rant about fans celebrating.

The misunderstanding as you put it is deliberate because he does not accept the question.

People don't seem to get this but if you don't like the question you don't answer it, you put your own question back. Answering the BBC question is to accept their premise.

I have exhausted this point if you don't accept it by now then you won't and we are all wasting our time. <ok>

    I understand what you're saying Spurf, but I don't think that's what he's doing.
    Agree to disagree. <ok>
