I voted for 1 as it is just too early to judge him. IN fact a combination of 1 and 3 is what I really feel - he is doing alright - but I am not happy with alright for Spurs - but he needs more time and we need to be patient :)

It's notable nobody has voted the fourth option - then again, nobody would've done that for our last manager either...

I maintain that Klopp or Blanc would have been better options. I wish he'd be less of a scruff.

TMT, I'm not arguing with you LOL, I was just surprised as I genuinely can't think of much that results in us being "lucky" this season.

Thanks for pointing those 2 things out, I'd forgotten about those.

hope you feel better soon. Get yourself dosed up, pronto <ok>

I think should we maintain our current level/position he deserves a second season for sure.

What I think is really important though (and i feel like i've been banging my head against a brick wall for about 3years) is adequate replacements for Lennon and Bale.

Bale will most probably leave at some point, so better to have a replacement bought in at a fair price, then everyone know we have £50m to spend and therefor do an Andy Carrol.

We need to be finding more Bales, Modric's, Parkers, Ade's and Sandro's and less Siguurdsons and Dempseys. People who will really drive us forward and improve us.
Joao Moutinho and Willian would have been perfect, and now thanks to them having good seasons will be out of our price range (and appeal range) but that is Levy's **** up.

I want to see the kind of players he wants to fill the team with before we look to rate him too harshly, as I really find it hard to believe he wanted Dempsey and Lloris as his primary transfer targets.

Still the spine of the squad is still very promising, I just feel we should flesh it out more as it is easier to keep and sign good players whilst you have other good players ala utd, rather than sell them and replace like Arsenal.

With out current squad, I can't really see how we can accomodate: Bently, Thud, Falque, Dempsey, Gylfi, Scotty, Sandro, Livermore, Dembele, Lennon, Bale, Ade, Defoe, Carrol and Townsend whilst also looking to bring people in. It's been a massive problem over the years shifting dead wood but we need to get rid of more imo.

    Carrol should be on loan
Ade + Defoe used as strikers only (not second striker nonsense as this should be done by a proper attacking midfielder)
We should get one of the youth team strikers involved
Galas should be being fazed out by the end of the year and replaced in the summer
We should have one old keeper (friedel or Cudacini) and one youth prospect as our back up keepers
Alternative winger to Bale and Lennon. Willian would be class but I don't think we will be able to afford him.

The team should be fitter as well. under Jol conceding like we are was all about fitness and we used to be outclassed by Arsenal in the last 10-20 mins due to poor fitness. We seem to be going back down that route rather than taking the game to people in that space of time as we did under Harry and utd do. This may be exacerbated by the defensive mindset at the end of games, but this really has to change if we are to move on.

We were such a success in the Champs league because we went **** it and attacked people. I think if we played as we do now, we would limp out of the comp like City have done.

I know i'm really ranting here, but all in all he has done ok. Not great, but deserves at least Jan and summer transfer windows.

I'm backing AVB all the way. That's all I'm going to say as I feel ridiculous judging him after 5 months.

All those banging on about our style etc etc..quite frankly I couldn't give a damn as I'd take a trophy over pretty football all day.

Im sick of all the Harry bumming going on aswell. We talk about our traditions and can't get over things like Ghaly throwing the shirt on the floor. Yet only a fool would deny that Harry would have butt ****ed us had the FA not fingered his rim first. Infact he pissed me right off but I suppose that's ok because we played good football. Don't know about you lot but if my girlfriend, the good looking porn star who cooks for me, pampers me sucks me daily decided that she's keeping her options open then I'd use the bitch and dump her. Something Levy did with Harry as soon as the season was over. I'd probably text her saying 'thanks for the memories,oh what memories they are. However your a whore so bye bye'

Then I meet another woman. One who loves what I love...one who shows enthusiasm...yeah ok she may not have a big gob so the blow jobs are not as good. However her enthusiasm and loyalty demand respect and that is the currency I use.

We haven't won **** all for years. We were flirting with top 4 under Jol and we are flirting with it now. So unless trophies have all of a sudden dried up due to Harry going I don't see the problem.

So since it's not about trophies and stupid defeats to poor opposition were the norm under Harry aswell. I don't understand this love in with everyone but AVB.

The thing is with AVB every issue he has I think he is willing to learn and improve. That will do me.

I see your logic, but there were other managers appointed during July who are still at their club, but were appointed later in the month than AVB. Gianfranco Zola for example.

I don't as I don't believe I am selling my soul...there was a time when our soul and Gold went hand in hand and it was seen as the norm..I've got my soul...I just want to feel some gold.

You would have done if a poll had been put up after the same amount time after Harry started...and for the following couple of years. If you didn't love him during the CL run there must be something wrong with you.

I said I would give AVB 15 games before I make my judgement, I've given him 16.

So, here goes...I find AVB really hard to summarise and analyse, does anyone else feel like that? I've decided he is a strange manager, and truth be told, probably a strange guy. I can't help but feel we are floating around 4th place, not through our own good work, but through other teams awful form. If Arsenal were anywhere near where they should be, or Newcastle continued the form of last season, I couldn't see us in with a shout. Whenever I tried to look at positives for AVB, because there are times when I want to be positive, I struggle to find the words. Even after our 3 game winning streak, I still never felt able to find compliments about his management style. Now this all sounds very doom and gloom, so I want to stress, I have seen some light in the tunnel with AVB.

    The positives

I think the squad we have has the potential to be very strong, with one or two more additions to top things up, I could genuinely see us making challenges in the right places. I completely agree with AVB's starting 11, and what he sees as his 'strongest' team. I also think in the long run he wants to add a creative midfielder and push Dembele forward, which I also agree with.

Our first half performance against Manchester United is one of the best I have ever seen at Spurs, we took the game to them and were fearless, yet devastating in our assault. Which tells me we have that in our locker, the key is making it show more often.

Finally, I love his passion and desire to win every competition we enter. You can see with AVB that he genuinely cares (probably where the fall out with Redknapp arose). I honestly believe we would win a trophy under AVB, this season or next (if he survives).

    The problems

AVB is incredibly tactically naive, and for a manager that is supposed to be a great tactician, I find this troubling. I cannot for the life of me understand the persistence with Huddlestone, every time he brings him on when we are winning, disaster sets in. Huddlestone is slow, lack luster and frankly not good enough IMO to be playing at that end of the table. AVB's failure to recognise that is costing him points. The Chelsea game is a good example of that, we were up against a speedy, mobile team in great form, and we were overrun in the middle of the park.

Losing points late on - this is down to the lack of confidence and bravery with his selections. AVB needs to learn that if you want to survive at the top, you need to play like one of the 'big boys'. That means being arrogant enough to believe the team that are ahead in games will see it out. The tendency to switch to the defensive, 'save what we' have attitude is costing us big time. There is plenty of leadership and experience in that team, and I think AVB struggles to trust his players.

AVB can't seem to get the team playing "the Tottenham way" (and I say it like that because I'm always cautious when stereotyping a team on their past traditions). Whether this is down to a lack of man management skills, or confusing training drills (probably a combination of the two), the players don't look comfortable with each other.

Finally on his lack of man management skills, I think AVB over compensates on this by speaking ridiculously positively in the media about his players. Every quote I read, usually contains some form of 'enormous effort, amazing attitude' which annoys me intensely. His appearance on the pitch after we lost 5-2 to Arsenal, congratulating every player as if we had one the game was over the top. Again I think this kind of 'public' image he is trying to create confuses the players.

My biggest worry of all with AVB is, whilst he might recognise some of these faults, he is too set in his ways to change anything. Ultimately this will be at the cost of Tottenham, and unfortunately I think we will need to take steps backwards, before we can move forward. Of course I would love to be proven wrong.

    The end

Would be interesting to hear any other Spurs fans, or neutrals, opinions on AVB? I'm certain some readers will disagree with my thoughts.

Bit of a match to match basis for me at the moment. What I mean is great AVB if we win and crap AVB if we lose. I've never felt this way with Spurs before and I don't know how to handle it. Ffs win something for us AVB.
