My sentiments entirely, they went in shoulder to shoulder. There's a outstretched arm as Cisse is already falling but certainly not enough for a penalty. It's a fortunate decision on our behalf.

It was a clear nudge into his side, and you don't go in like that when you're the last man back. The quality build up play caused panic in their defence. It may have been a tad harsh, but going in like that when you're the last man back, and only 8 minutes into a game, is silly. It was a red card and a pen for me.

At the end of the day we produced quality throughout the game. The built up play towards the pen was superb, the shot leading to the 2nd goal was beast, and Bigi's goal was pure class.

They struggled to deal with Santon while there were 3 defenders on the pitch, and even when they switched to 4 at the back.

Anyone who goes on that much about the decision having that much of an effect about the result should just get over it.

We won the game through quality.

Thought the penalty was a homer, we wouldn't have got it away, however, Caldwell should have been booked for a bad tackle on edge of box which would have seen him sent off for 2 yellows. Still think we would have got 3 points whatever happened.

Did think it was top notch build up play to the pen. Some lovely little passes knocked about. One of those ones where people all have a different interpretation, live and having seen it when I got in I just thought it was a shoulder to shoulder 50/50, neither in front of the other. Obviously I got up and shouted pen though

The replay to me shows a very cute bit of play by Cisse though, in that he almost puts his foot across Figueroas and they tangle. I can see why the ref gave it but if that had gone against us I'd be very unhappy. As much as I felt the ref was a bit of a homer, one thing I did like is that he let the game flow and didn't get bogged down with stupid stuff making it stop start. The tackle was allowed last night!

Now Caldwell Definitely should have walked, I've a feeling had it not been for our penalty he would been off!

I'm happy we won.
I'm still not convinced by our play, as most of it was against ten men.

However, the point is even if the lads didn't play well, this win would give them much-needed confidence. And eventually they may even forget that they didn't play that well, but that they won and that bit is very important for their morale and confidence.

Some players are still ****e
-Simmo, I don't think he's good I think we tend to overrate him. He's not that good of a defender as we think he is, he can't judge the flight/bounce of a ball, can only pass the ball backwards instead of to the centre or forward, offers nothing in attack. Defense against wingers isn't as good as we seem to think, still gets beat by decent wingers
-Willo I don't even know where to start. I really don't want to see him anywhere near our team after the transfer window(that is assuming we DEFINITELY bring someone else in) since we'll be playing league and europa league knockout games, I don't want him in the team at all
-Sammy Still too raw. Now that the truth about Overran is that he is injured is out, I can see him getting a few meaningless minutes and games for us and I can live with that..Just please don't start him ahead of Marvo and the others

I am really happy with Anita's progress over the past few games, Marveaux returning to the kind of form that had us excited(a lot of us have forgotten haven't we, last season before he pulled his groin) Hopefully he displaces Jonas, and we can put Marveaux on the left, HBA on the right

That's all from me for now

From refs view a stonewall penalty, from other views just looked a coming together by both players.
Anita , Marvo and Santon stood out last night, and a lovely goal from Bigi.
Pleased Pards took Tiote off we need him against Fulham.
Jonas looking very jaded.

I agree Tash, at times our passing was top notch stuff especially for the 1st and 3rd goals and also agree that what Figeroea did was a little clumsy.

He comes in at a sharp angle against Cisse and as Cisse is already falling his arm extends. It's a normal 50/50 shoulder to shoulder challenge where in my opinion Figeroea was simply stronger. If that was against us I would feel very hard done by.

Once the penalty was given there's no question that the red card had to be produced. Very harsh incident overall for Wigan as it completely changed the game from then on.

Colo & Willo weren't good and Colo was better(just) than Willo. Willo still looking like he has 4-5 mistakes in him per game.

Thought Santon for the umpteenth time this season was our best defender.
Anita definitely Motm for me.

Overrated ratings after a win is the norm with you though Tash.

That's what your mother said last night.

Sitting behind the goal, it looked a definite penalty to me.

Sitting behind the goal I thought we were really lucky with it! Personally I thought it was a tackle you see a lot in the game, and feel hard done to when the decision goes against, especially for a penalty!

I think it's fair giving the ref the benefit of the doubt when everyone and their nan are split on it, though. Once he points to the spot, the red was necessary according to the rules, so very brave decision.

Caldwell I thought deserved an early bath more, but it would have been harsh on Wigan really. Another decision I thought was a bit dubious, Sammy's yellow? What did he do? Twice after he got a yellow he was scythed down, and the offender didn't get booked

Thought Anita was great again. Shows the reason why fans need to be patient in all aspects. Simpson had a very good game also. I also think for the first 60mins Cisse was very good, the lad is working his balls off and showed some nice bits of skill. Him and Demba still need to improve their link play, but at least we saw a pass from Demba for the pen. Shame Cisse didn't return the favour in the 2nd half when he went for that crazy backheel. I feel for Jonas, I'm not sure he knows what he is anymore.

I think they took Tiote off because he was pretty poor and should have been booked. He needs to stop shooting all the time and I wish the crowd would **** off with the screams of "shooooot". It was funny a couple of times but its just grating now and he tries to play up to it.

Saying that Caldwell should have went all day long. Have to say I didn't think it was a pen or sending off. Mike Jones is welcome back anytime <laugh> thought he was a bit of homer overall being truthful but we were due some luck.

We fully deserved our win and we passed the ball a lot better. Of course its much easier when they are down to 10 but maybe that slice of luck will give us the kickstart we so badly need. Crucial to back it up at Fulham by taking at least a point. Obviously they will be looking to arrest their own slide and we don't do very well down there but we collecting more points will get our season going.

<laugh> Disagree... Still find it hilarious!
He defo needs to measure the right occasion a bit more, but I think he is justified in having a pop from range for sure. He's got a good strike on him and he was close a couple of times last night, including very early on. If there's not an easy pass on and space opens up, have a hit, I would be pissed if he didn't! Stats say the more shots you have on target the more you'll score, and Santon's effort was a case in point about what can happen if you give it a go.

Also, mention Marv you b******!!!!<nahnah>

The ref was shaping up to giving Caldwell one but seemed to think twice and didn't want to look too harsh. He should have been gone.

Yep, it's at times like that we all look around and utter "consistency", which the FA themselves love to peddle. From a spectacle point of view for the neutral (and Wigan fans), it would ruin the game them having 9 men. Probably hard not to take that into account during a match, especially when the first red was 50/50. A robot ref would have shown him a red, slapped him with a steely and emotionless robotic palm for whinging about it, and played on. But then he might have gone haywire and tried to end humanity so he could have a lie in on weekends... So swings and roundabouts really.

In real time, I thought Wigan received many beneficial decisions after the red, but if we had MOTD on a monday we'd know for sure... But the BBC are cheapskate tw@s

I thought Marv did well (happy now?) I still think he has plenty to prove but last night, he gave us a bit of impetus with some mazy runs and clever passing.

I don't mind Tiote having a pop, I believe any player when in range has a right to. Don't buy a ticket.....etc. Its just he wastes some really good opportunities for us to keep the ball and work the oppositin across the pitch, its about selection for me. He is so emotional, the shouts just make him do what they are asking. H ehas a decent hit but he just needs better decision making. His passing last night again was just crazy. One minute some lovely little one twos and then other times just rank amateur passes to the opposition. No doubt the sub was to protect him from himself (How was he not booked? As a minimum for persistent fouling. I love Mike Jones).

Mike Jones called Colo over when he gave Tiote his final warning, you could see him indicating to Colo 1, 2 3, and pointing to where the offencs took place, he was more than liberal with Tiote.

Start a Mike Jones fan club do you think?

A dedicated Mike Jones appreciation thread on the board?

Yes yes yes!

Hang on what if (like any person with an ounce of sense) he reads not606 though? He'll then think "oh if they think I was a homer, I'll teach them"......................
