I remember being in Pearson Park one day, larking about, and someone ran up to us and said North Hull lads were on their way, with Maxi (or was it Macksy?).

I was born on The Avenues(back when they was nice) then moved to Brough remember going to Peggy Farrow woods and dirtbiking on the Gumps, before it then was ruined by those god awful houses which ruined Brough, so ithen went to Boothferry Road damn good chinese down there, then back to Brough (Medicis is amazing) and somehow ended up in Hornsea now im on Kingswood.

I did have a fight in the street with a skinhead outside the Star and Garter. I was a smothie (Levi tonics, Ben Sherman with button down collar, red socks, leather soled black loafers, crombie coat with a silk black and amber hankie card held in with a gold tie pin), it was probably Scars mates.
It was madness at times on NHE, the problem was that I was surrounded by greasers and had quite a few mates who where heavily into motor bikes (cycle speedway is a clue). I had a scrap with some kid at the bottom of Ellerburn Ave and he ran home to get his brothers who started to try to find me, they where riding up and down Greenwood and along 5th Ave. I got caught near 31st by two of them. Just before one of them hit me he said "****ing hell its Mel". I got a hiding but when he kicked me he at least turned his foot sideways.
The Macklin brothers were from north hull and played for Hull FC they were well known in the area in their early days

Its been a bloody good thread, as this.I've been out with the family and friends, just got back, and have been looking forward to more memories from you lot.
I was just so pleased, when i saw 21st ave appear from other posters.
And no, i wouldn't swap my childhood with todays equivalant. My kids, do sport or a club, every day of the week, seriously ( Tennis Lessons, badminton, Football, Netball, Judo, swimming, Cubs, Girl Guides, plus the stuff they do at and after school. But they seldom play outside.
I grew up all over I will just post photos. These are the places I lived up to about 13 or so.

Grew up in Hessle and actually born in Hessle down Chesnut Avenue which later became a place where Doctors practiced, in my day most notably Dr Cameron. Spent most of my early childhood playing around in the bomb craters where what is now Hessle C of E. Went there but not to the new place. At one point lived down Cottesmore Rd and a notable near neighbor was Don Revie. Another City player lived down there dont remember who though. Went to secondary school in Hull down Cottingham Rd a ways down from Hull University on the opposite side of the road. Spent most of my dinner money playing snooker in one of the pool halls down Newland Ave. And most of my days at school thinking up ways to avoid doing any work. Teenager years spent mainly in Little Switz and on Humber Bank trolling unsuccessfully for girls instead of doing my homework-paid for that later on in spades and it needed one to dig myself out of the hole I got myself into. All turned out well in the end though. Started seriously watching City in Bill Bradburys hey day. Waggy was of course a later upstart
Was the surname Paige? I used to pinch Gooseberries from the back garden and played soccer on the vacant land across from the lodge alongside the Bowling greens
and played golf with Brian and younger brother whose name escapes me.
I now live where The Lodge used to be! Grew up in Anlaby and was taught in primary school by a certain Roger DeVries!
My boss lives in Roos, some nice houses there but as you say is a bit too far east!

No but I think they came in after we left there. I know where you mean playing soccer. I knew a few Brian's I played golf there also for many years before moving to Hessle when they built the new course at Raywell.

Brought up in Skirlaugh until 15 then moven in with my Nana for 6 months to a year Moved to Arnold with Parents then age 22 moved back to Skirlaugh in my first house
For those remembering "Elsies" on Greenwood, its really good to hear st that was my grandparents shop but only have a handful of memories as it was sold when I was still little
