    What a ridiculous argument.

So we could get a young lad on here in a year or three, saying Lambert is our best player ever, because he never saw MLT/Channon/Keegan/Paine/Moran/Davies that Lambert is therefore better? And even if he watched the footage of MLT et al playing he could still not make an informed judgement on that?

That's a very, VERY, stupid argument.

Let me get this straight. You don't think it's possible that I've seen enough footage of Channon, Davies, Moran and Paine to know for sure that they were better than Lambert, but you have seen enough footage to know for sure that Lambert is better than every other striker to have played for Saints?

Typically people making a mountain out of a mole hill, i clearly suggested it was my opinion that Lambert. Of course people now seem to have jumped on my back.

The key word in my Comment was "suggested", meaning it was my opinion

Of course it's opinion. It couldn't be fact could it? But you seem to think you've seen "more than enough" footage to form an opinion on the matter, but can't possibly imagine that I have. Those were your words.

Not my words at all, was merely trying to expand the conversation by questioning your opinion. you have, of course taken it the wrong way though.

By reading the words you typed and interpreting their meanings literally. Yeah, that happens a lot.

You weren't questioning my opinion, you were questioning my ability to form an opinion.

Sign Wanyama he is a beat in FM for Southampton. That's how you should decide to buy a player isn't it?

Going to be some pretty desperate spending by some clubs in the window. Not just Arry but Wenger and Benitez as well!

No one would question your ability to form an opinion. You seem to have one on everything.

Ciaran Clark is also a monster, 3.5m for a great defender and solid technical and passing skills....

Yeah, because Villa are likely to sell their best centre back to a relegation rival for as little as that.

Is he that good? I always thought he was a bit of a lightweight.

He is, but he's technically very proficient, from what I've seen. Comfortable playing in midfield.

I suppose we could do with him then. I'd still like an enormous tank of a defender though. Like a new Jaidi.

When you compare players of yesteryear with players of today. How do you judge their assets if you have not seen them actually play?
What you see on film, which is of course edited high lights? What you read in old clippings? In all honesty you cannot make a true assessment in my view unless you have seen them in the flesh.
So I would judge that you would be wrong to assess someone unless you have seen for yourself. You can of course compare records but to say one player is better than another based on films or hearsay for me is folly.
Some of the players previously mentioned were Awesome, all were different in many ways. To compare them to Lambert would be totally unjust as they all played differing systems and most of the mentioned latter day heroes, a constant higher level of football. Lambert has only played 14 or 15 games at the highest level and while good, has still to make his mark.
