In many ways, they always have been, TMT. Even when 'Pool was spending silly money on transfers and wages to ensure that they always have the best players in the league, and were "buying" their way to glory, Everton (like us) always stuck to their principles, and operated a grass-roots policy throughout their club, using raw scouting and coaching talent to find and nurture the best footballing talent. It wasn't our fault that the likes of 'Pool, with their big cheque-books, came along and stole our players off us. Rooney stolen from Everton by United, Judas stolen from us by Arsenal with bribes of silly wages. Well, the bank finally had enough of 'Pool's silly spending and told the club, in no uncertain terms, that it's free-loading days were over, and that if it couldn't afford to pay for the player from its own resources, it would have to join the Norwiches and the Readings of this world, and scrap for survival. And that's exactly how it has turned out. Everton (and us), on the other hand, has survived by sticking to its grass-roots policies, and has grown in stature, now that its greatness is no longer being hidden by the obscenity of 'Pool's silly spending. 'Pool's days of buying glory are well and truly over. I liken the whole sickening episode to the Lance Armstrong scandal. All those fantastic young riders were sneered at and thought inferior, next to Armstrong, until it was discovered that he was popping more pills than a Gold's Gym body-builder. Well, using that analogy, 'Pool used to be the Arnold Schwarzneggar of the football world (in the days when he was popping steroids like smarties and winning all the Mr Universe Competitions), but now 'Pool is like the drug-free Arnie of today - shrunken, shriveled, and a bit toady-looking. No way will he "be back," and that's exactly how it is for 'Pool. LFC's pill-popping, glory-hunting-steroid-days are over for good. If you seem what I mean.
Yeah, you're right - not a good example. Okay, how about Keane being stolen by the Mousers? No. Er... Bent to Sunderland. 5hit! Wait! Berbatov to United! Phew! I knew there was one, there, somewhere. Got there in the end.
Lighten up Thor ffs, your 'historical' new board banner contains a quote from the late great Bill Nick made decades ago yet seen as still relevant by Spurs supporters. I asked a couple of weeks ago where does history begin in the deluded minds of you Spurs fans? Is it the season Spurs first qualified the CL?, or maybe the season you last won a major trophy? Either way you wont win the league or the CL so why all the bigging yourselves up.
It wasn't Ledley was it but who cares HIAG,I know exactly what you mean. That was a good post summing it up perfectly with some good analogies thrown in. I've just remembered who you mean,it was Sol Campbell. I'm trying to remember all the top names Liverpool bought but there are just too many and it's too long ago now. I'd have to google it and I can't be bothered. Leeds were once good and now look and so were Derby. Portsmouth won a few trophies in the 50's and now look. We won the first double and the first European Cup Winners Cup and various others and now look. Man U went down and all these top teams can go the same way as Liverpool are proving. Bill Nick's sayings are still relevant though Kopite.
Where does history begin with you Kopite? Was it when you were promoted in 1963 and we'd already won 4 trophies in 2 years? We are not bigging ourselves up,everybody else is doing that by giving us so much attention.
Yes, it was Campbell to whom I was referring. Sorry. I was so caught up in the righteousness of my rant that I made a small error. Nonetheless, the truth of what I wrote remains.
We won 2 league titles to your 1 in the 60's(a mere few years after promotion)and an FA Cup and 3 charity shields, we'd won more before Spurs 60's success's and we've won more since Spurs 60's successes up until last season, so you choose your starting point when history began Thor.
What history would you lot be making? The only time your players do anything historic is when they move on to bigger and better clubs, like when Ledley went and won multiple league and cup trophies at the best club in North London (it was Ledley wasn't it?). So come on, being the prophet that you are, I would like to hear what historic feats Spurs have in their future, we all know your prophecy that Liverpool will be a championship team within a year, so what greatness from the Spurs team do we have to look forward to (should the rapture not happen ofcourse).
Credit where credit is due. 'Pool managed a massive 3 home-points against fellow relegation strugglers Saints. I note that Arsenal have now dropped down to join you in mid-table. It'll be interesting to see which one of you manages to finish best in mid-table, this season. Well done, though, lads
We've made history HIAG, a history that Fergie even after over half a century at OT can't better or even equal, that's what the 5 gold stars represent. Our history in winning silverware reached even last season(our worst in 50yrs), when did Spurs last add to their trophy haul, or are you suggesting finishing 4th in the prem is 'historical'? It's amusing to say the least that you consider Spurs current status as massive when you've got nothing to show for it except a couple of ventures into the CL, keep it coming HIAG because your delusion is the standout feature on this your own thread.
To lose your derby 5-2 twice in a year is pretty historical and unlikely to be rivalled for a long time.
