I was so disappointed to hear Newey's comments when speaking with Damon Hill after Brazil. When talking about Newey's previous success working with Hill, he said they would have won many more titles if it hadn't been for "that dirty German". Just no class at all!! Sorry Newey, Schumacher the greatest of all time, whether we like him or not, and your comment shows a lack of respect. No humility either, so here's hoping you never win a thing ever again.
That dirty German gave Vettel and Newey their third title. If it is true, then it is just bitterness. Quite apt that his own German is being investigated.
Well, there is surely no surprise that fans of Schumacher will not see things the same way. My personal belief is that the essence of what Newey said is spot on, regardless of the manner in which it was said. Apologies to Schumacher fans. It's just my view that things would have been very very different had the events of Adelaide '94 not transpired as they did. But that's life. Speaking of 'life', it is perhaps also worth mentioning that death played its part in this. Damon Hill, Frank Williams and Patrick Head decided that in view of the aftermath of Senna's death, they would not dispute the result of the World Drivers' Championship that same year – as would normally have been the case in such arguably disgraceful circumstances.
I imagine it was said tongue-in-cheek, but if all Schumacher fans also have the stereo-typed german sense of humour, Newey's comment will have passed them by, which it clearly has. As for humility, Newey is by far one of the humblest people in the paddock. Bitter Newey? Bitter German fans more like who can't take a cheeky one-liner between two friends. Don't bother replying to this anyone about 'how would you like to be called dirty' as i just don't care.
It was a joke I reckon, nothing more than that. Newey does seem like the last person on Earth to mean what he said. And even if he did. Does it matter? I agree with you Chris.
