We won't beat anyone until we can score goals - and we won't get enough points until we can score regularly, game after game.
There's little doubt that 'Arry is a positive move in the right direction and he's clearly identified the low hanging fruit, areas of weakness he can actually do something about now: the defence and us fans.
No flies on 'Arry, that seems pretty clear from the outset. Not only is the defence likely to improve significantly (after all, despite the obvious imbalance, we do have capable defenders) but both his post match acknowledgements and interviews are aimed at stoking us up as that 12th man force we can and need to be. That isn't gonna happen overnight though is it? 'Arry knows that fans in our position would have had so much bollox to put up with, that it'll take time to refresh the necessary levels of passionate belief to intimidate opposing sides into early surrender.
That said, it'll take more than words and the odd smile from a hangdog face to relieve my resignation to the likelihood of the big drop. I need something to really believe in - and that will only come from goals and points. Quite where those will be coming from is anyone's guess. We just don't have the resources, not even an extra-squad wonder kid coming through the ranks.
So my reservations have nowt to do with 'Arry or his regime. With the right things in place, I'd be an automatic convert. As it stands though, unless the likes of Taarabt, Hoilett, Mackie and Granero step up to the plate as regular goal scorers, sorry but I just don't know how 'Arry can get us out of this mess.
Watching with baited breath.
