He had a rant against Fergie. Thats why they love him. The only thing above that is the CL win which is fair enough. Other than that what else is there to love. Many complained about him none stop when he was in charge. His awful transfer, rotation and tactical policies. His none existent man management. His attempts to get involved in mind games with other managers that just caused more issues for his own club.
The mans a clown, nothing more too it.
You sir, are an uneducated buffoon.
We loved him because he overachieved with LFC, he loved our club and he protected us. He defended us against the media, rival managers (typically those who are mates with Fergie).
He may have spent £229m but how much of that did recoup? He had to sell to buy which is never easy, especially when you're competing with richer clubs like MUFC and Chelsea. He had roughly £10m net to spend each season which isn't a significant amount and this reduces further considering one of his signings (Torres) went for £50m.
Also, the squad was lacking depth so he had to buy cheaper squad players - some paid off, some didn't. Remember that these players weren't his first choices. But when given money and when he was allowed to sign his FIRST choices, he pretty much got it right. It's well known that Rafa wanted to sign Dani Alves (at Sevilla at the time), Mata, Silva, Hazard, Jovetic, Falcao. And look at them now.
Reina
Johnson
Agger
Skrtel
Mascherano
Alonso
Torres
Then you have fringe players who were very solid such as Arbeloa, Aurelio, Yossi, Kuyt, Maxi and Riera.
They formed the spine of the team and are considered to be world class players. It's difficult to buy a single player who goes onto become top/world class but Rafa had 6/7 of them. No doubt you will turn to Robbie Keane but he wasn't a first choice and wasn't HIS choice full stop. He did fail with Aquilani which is surprising because he actually is a good player but never got the chance.
If you bothered to read my previous post then you would have noticed that I had covered his rotation policy. A team that is competing on many fronts needs a big squad and fresh legs. Evidence shows that even your beloved Fergie rotated his squad as much as Rafa, Mourinho and Wenger did yet Rafa was the only who was blasted for it. It's no coincidence that our second half of the season was usually better than the first half and that was down to rotating the team and keeping the players fresh. In addition, he didn't rotate certain players - he left the core alone.
And his man management style is always debated but I'll tell you this. The top class players in our side such as Reina, Skrtel, Agger, Aurelio, Arebelo, Mascherano, Kuyt, Torres never said a bad word about him. Even Alonso admitted it. The only people that didn't like Rafa were the ones who were sold on, or had a bad attitude like Babel, Yossi and Riera and look how their careers have panned out? If you have a desire to succeed and work hard, then Rafa will give you all the time. But if you have a poor attitude, then you will be shipped out.
And he didn't engage in mind games. He was simply defending himself and his club. As mentioned previously, his best attribute is his ability to ignore everyone and do what he thinks is best for the club. He won't bow down to media pressure or the supporters.
