Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the club could be playing in the Champions League next year with a top-four finish not out of reach. (Source: BBC Football website) Here we go again! One half-decent home win and suddenly 'Pool are back in the Champions League! You couldn't make this up! No, Carra, you won't be playing in the CL next season, because there are at least 6 teams that are better than you for 4th spot. So, please, just pipe down, will you!
Of course they are! That's why they are in the CL year in and year out and 'Pool isn't. Please, stop trying to be clever, as you are reaching well beyond yourself.
You and your Mouser kin had turned on Hodgson by the end of his second game in charge! What does that make you? Polystyrene, I reckon
Please... resorting to childish insults towards somebody's intelligence? I thought higher of you than that, perhaps I should have known better. Reverend Absurd, your time is wasted on this one.
I laughed when I saw this also, they have just beaten a bottom 6 side and on another day with another referee could have seen their one decent player red carded and banned for 3 games. Talk about getting carried away Carthorse. Sure they are on a decent run but this is with an almost fully fit squad and only 1 key player missing (Lucas), pick up 4 or 5 injuries to first choice players and then see how they cope.
Don't use the word clever and then muddle up your own language. I suggest you delve a little deeper than the headline; perhaps listen to the interview. No he isn't. Close, but no. He mentioned that we were two points behind Arsenal and top 4 is 'where we want to be' (the direct quote). He didn't saw we expect it or find it immediately achievable.
Lucas, Kelly and Borini are still out and yesterday was Reina's first game back after he was out injured too. In the last months with four starting players out we have still be getting at least a draw (even with good goals disallowed) while THFC have been losing games.
MUST READ HEADLINE AND JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS! Idiots. Try reading the Carragher interview. He simply says how the 4th spot isn't far off where we are and, with 2/3 of the season left to play, there's every chance of us being in the running for it. He doesn't say it's nailed on. He doesn't say we should expect it. He doesn't say we've got a better squad than others who are in the running. In fact, he says very little other than us being close. Jesus. Learn to read before trying to have a grown up discussion. Other than that, we're on better form than others around us, we have 2 key players coming back from injury in the next few weeks, we started the season against some of the strongest sides in the league, with a young team and playing a new system. AND YET we're still not far from 4th. So yes, Jamie is right. We are in the running...as are several other clubs..
Kelly and Borini aren't up to the standards Liverpool require to be a top 4 side if they come back might undo all the good work Liverpool have done, sometimes injuries can bring a team together and fight for each other. Liverpool this season will be Top 8 but no higher then 6th which I think most Liverpool fans will be happy with, but they need a lot of work still and are going in the right direction. Once Tottenham hit top gear which will happen soon I think they will challenge for the Top 4 but they might be a surprise this year in the top 4 as I think Arsenal's defence just isn't good enough to be a top 4 team.
There was nothing grammatically wrong with what I wrote. Please do not even begin to attempt to give me an English lesson.
The top teams you played were at home (bar Chelsea) so you have them to play away yet,and you have played Stoke(H), Wigan(H), Newcastle(H), Reading(H) also Man City (H), Man Utd (H) and Arsenal (H) that's 7 from 12 games at home and have won 2 of them not really top 4 form is it. The thing is look at the facts they tell much more then just spouting bollox Top 8 at the least, top 6 max but a long way off the top 4 just at this moment. Also no one said you are nailed on For Champions League (???), but Carragher to even think you can get into the Champions League this season is laughable really. If you won all your home games from now to the end of the season that would still only give you 51 pts so another 20 points to get from away games and that's with winning every home game from now, not going to happen I'm afraid.
I've heard it all now. THFC have injuries that make them lose games. But Liverpool have the kind of injuries that make them pick up more points than they deserve.
Hoi numbnuts stop putting words in my mouth, I said and this can take time to register so I will put it in bold "SOMETIMES" when teams have injuries they pull together and fight for each other. Not once did I say Tottenham did that (what a plank) so Liverpool have had injuries and have pulled together Tottenham haven't but I still think they will have enough quality to outlast the season then Liverpool will.
Also do you think West Brom have a chance of Champions League and if they don't please explain the reason why???? (or is it because West Brom aren't a good team, who apparently dicked you 3-0)
There is a clear inconsistency in the language you used, as highlighted. It's not a lesson, just a little irony I've pointed out. Anyway, I don't have time (well, not enough time) for pedantry. If you look at the majority of posts on our board that's what we think too!
Your brackets imply that you know what I'm going to reply with, as well as the nice attempt at a bait...when you have no clue whatsoever, you're just assuming, like the vast majority of fans on these boards do. WB have just as much chance as anyone, on current form. The question is whether they can maintain that form, which no one can answer. If they do, well obviously they stay there, but many would say they're overachieving so far and will drop the pace eventually. Many said the same for Newcastle last year (such as me) but they stayed right up there til the end, but they're struggling this year instead. We're still only 1/3 through though, too early to make predictions beyond the top 3. As such, and on current form, Liverpool has just as good a chance as anyone. Having a chance is a simple term. It means there's a chance if things continue to go our way, our form continues and others maybe struggle. There is a chance of top 4. We don't expect it, nor will we be annoyed if we don't get there. It was never our realistic goal for the year (although it was always a 'goal', you need to aim for something). I'd be happy with top 6 again, providing we build depth into our team namely the forward position.
The correct grammar would have seen you use: "and 'Pool aren't." "That's why they are in the CL year in and year out and 'Pool is not." Hopefully you can see your error now.
Who are these players that are better than the leading premier league scorer and the joint leading scorer in the South American world cup qualifiers? Oh, and btw, I'm pretty sure most top teams in Europe play with 1 striker, some with none, it hasn't stopped the system being succesful or the team being succesful. Infact, the only teams who do play with 2 up front (City & Man U) have been badly exposed in Europe and trounced by any half decent team because of their insistance in playing 2 up top. So don't give me this rubbish about Rodgers 'system' not working as its focused around one player, it isnt.
