I have started this thread as we clearly have some very good tipsters appearing each day on the daily thread but no way of really seeing who proves their metal week in week out. I think it would be good if we had a thread where someone could just see very clearly who is putting up what each day without the rest of what makes up the daily thread.

What I propose is that each time you put up a horse you carry your own level stake profit or loss forward at the end of your post so that there is no work to be done for anyone else (me), please also include the selection count as well so it is clear to see how many selections you have posted and what your level stake total is. This will show who makes a profit and whether it is done through being selective or placing many bets even dutching. At the end of each month we can perhaps table up the top six performers and their totals.

I have no doubt that some of our better tipsters here will have people who follow them to some extent or another and so this thread will hopefully be of use. It's an idea but of course if you feel not a good one let me know and Ron can pull it down.

Just for ease of use all selections must be win or each-way and each-way settled as per standard rules. Prices can be taken but the bookmaker offering the odds must be named and if that particular bookmaker pays best odds guaranteed this is also acceptable if stated in your selection.

Do you mean something like I did with my £10k Betting Banks? (I stuck my neck on the block 3 times.) Also Ardent with his Appraise System and Toppy with his lays.
 
Good idea..we used to have a Naps table which worked on a + and - basis.

Some of us did rather well <whistle>

Pretty much Ron in as much as it will provide a platform for each forum member to log their selections simply. The difference between the threads of yourself and Ardent however is that this is straightforward level stakes so no theoretical money or variation in points. It's a simple who can pick winners and show a level stakes profit.

I feel it will provide three things
1. Somewhere other forum members can see who is tipping what each day very quickly and clearly as it can be hard to read through the daily thread sometimes when there are 80 posts.
2. It will provide a self run proofing service of sorts so that everyone can enjoy their own experiment like Ardent and yourself and other forum members can really measure who knows their stuff.
3. it will also be a bit of a competition if you like as we will post the top 6 or 10 at the end of each month with the monthly winner and rolling total leader.

I guess it will be a little like the Naps table Dex other than you can bet more than one horse a day or even in a race if you wish. It could get silly if someone starts chasing losses and putting up 30 horses a week but what i envisage is the one or two a day or week that we really fancy and are happy to put our name to, it will be interesting to see peoples betting patterns.

Competitions over a long period do not seem to work. They start off with a reasonable number of participants and then interest starts to wane. Competitions based on major meetings work, Cyc's League Tables worked because they were effectively a series of 1 day competitions.

It's a good idea but it failed last time we tried it. If you can find a recipe to make it work go ahead by all means.

Although I'd have no issue with this, there are some issues I can see arising. Firstly it could discourage people from posting their fancies if they end up with a demoralising loss next to their name. Furthermore, it would facilitate (not saying it would happen) posters boasting and becoming egotistical maniacs and it could also facilitate posters getting unnecessarily slagged off with the facts irrefutable evidence and as such it could lead to a hostile environment on the forum. Clearly these are all not guaranteed to happen but its definitely a possibility that needs considering before pushing ahead with the idea.
 
I have a serious 'anchor' problem at the moment, so I refuse to 'anchor' this thread as well...

I do agree with your points Ron/Roto, we could scrap the competition element and simply just put up the top 6 or those showing a profit. What i think may be it's biggest downfall is that once someone builds a loss they will no longer use the thread and it may then just be used by the 3 or 4 that are doing well. I think that what i would like to see on the forum is a thread that those that put up selections would use for simply their selections so that someone could come to the thread and see nothing but the days selections posted in the morning.

How about a thread where we put up only the race and the selection and a rating out of 10 with regard how strong we are on the bet. By taking out the competition element of profit/loss people may be tempted to use it. I think it would be good for many to be able to see and use the selections of certain users easily without the daily thread banter. The daily thread is great and i liken it to a cafe or pub where we meet up but there is a place for just seeing the selections, which i think was my main hope for a thread rather than a comp anyway.
 
Wasnt it established a while back that one tipster on here stood head and shoulders above the rest, including the premium rate tipping lines for that matter? Wasnt that very tipster given his own sticky, hailed a genius and given not606 pricewise status?

What ever to happened to that eh? I heard said tipster and his thread vanished for reasons unbeknown to this day and likely forever more. I certainly didnt hear anything about cracking under pressure.

Did you look at the graphs in my post No 5 above Blue? They conclusively back up the second sentence of your post No 15 above where you hit the nail on the head. Also some were posting their naps on the Daily Thread and not on the Naps thread.

What you are coming round to is my £10k Betting Bank but instead of £s you are suggesting a rating.

Although the viewings went down dramatically after the first stage it had a reasonable following:

Stage 1: 16,270 views
Stage 2: 2,878 views
Stage 3: 802 views

Stage 3 was a very short stage, which may have accounted for the very few viewings. However, you can see the drop in interest even though all 3 stages showed a decent profit.

May I suggest that, if there is to be any competitive element, in order to retain interest, the duration of the competition is kept to a a maximum of 1 month (eg have a league table which starts again each month).

I seem to recall some tables being run in another forum run by one of our 606 female friends. I can't remember her name now or what the forum was called. Also didn't Tom run one? If we could recall them it might be worth looking to see their formats and how successful they were.

I don't know if i want to look at people selections blind, I quite like reading ROTO's novels! Surely people want to know what has attracted someone to the horse, so they can look and make their own mind up?
